About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Matthew. I am a qualified and experienced pluralistic therapist. Over the years I have come to realise that each therapeutic relationship becomes its own unique, co-created version of therapy, with its own theory, philosophy, language, ways of being, and sense of humour. To me, this is exactly what pluralism is all about. I see therapy as a collaborative journey, with our relationship at the heart of what makes it effective.

I’m particularly drawn to the often uncomfortable questions that existential psychotherapy dares us to ask: How am I really doing in my life? What have I said ‘yes’ to, and where do I need to say ‘no’? How do I show up with others? Where do I feel connected, and where do I feel alone? What truly matters to me, and how do I live in a way that honours that? What do I owe myself, and what do I owe those around me?

In my work, I help individuals and people in relationships navigate these questions, supporting them to explore their values, make choices that feel authentic, and build connections that matter. My aim is always to create a safe, collaborative space that encourages curiosity, reflection, and honesty.

Practice description

Therapy offers a space to reflect on your life, relationships, and the way you experience yourself in the world. I provide a non-judgemental and collaborative environment where we can explore the challenges or questions that have brought you to therapy, helping you move toward greater understanding, clarity, and authenticity.

I work with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, shame, low self-worth, grief, loneliness, trauma, and experiences of disconnection. Together, we may explore long-held patterns, ways of relating, and the stories you carry about yourself and others.

Alongside general psychotherapy, I also work with a range of psychosexual concerns. This can include sexual function problems, intimacy challenges, compulsive sexual behaviours, sexualised drug use, sexual trauma, and questions around sex and sexuality as they intersect with cultural, religious, or personal values.

I also offer relationship therapy for those experiencing recurring conflict, communication difficulties, loss of intimacy, infidelity, desire discrepancy, or questions around commitment and consensual non-monogamy. My role is not to take sides, but to help create a space where each person can feel heard more clearly, and where new ways of communicating and relating can begin to emerge.

A significant part of my practice includes working with gay men exploring questions around identity, sexuality and relationships.

My first session

Starting therapy, or beginning again with a new therapist, can feel daunting. I provide a non-judgemental and accepting space where you can explore whatever challenges or questions have brought you here.

I offer a free, no-obligation 15-minute introductory session. This is an opportunity to talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, whether as an individual or in a relationship, and to explore how I might support you.
