About me and my therapy practice

Does it feel like life is getting on top of you? Can things sometimes feel overwhelming? Perhaps you can’t actually name what you’re feeling, but just feel low without really understanding why. I am here to help you process these thoughts and feelings to enable you to work towards a better understanding of yourself. This increased self- awareness will help you on the road to managing your life, your emotions and your reactions more effectively.

Sometimes an outside, objective perspective is the thing that you need, as it's often hard to see clearly when you're feeling strong emotions or in a stressful situation. In this way, counselling can help you to see the bigger picture, enabling you be more purposeful and escape from reaction mode.

Sessions can go at your own pace, and follow the direction which works for you. This is your time, to work on yourself. I will encourage you to be as compassionate with yourself, as you might be to another person.

Practice description

I work in a person centred way and offer you a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space in which to explore your feelings. Sometimes, routines, values and habits which we have held for years unquestioningly, can keep us stuck in unhealthy routines, or even cause us harm; they may be no longer useful. Together, we can unpick these to help you move forward. I can gently challenge ideas which may be no longer useful in your life, and help you to re-frame things in a more productive way.

My background is in Education, and I have taught, mentored and counselled in various settings. In addition to the person-centred approach, I also, where appropriate, use some coaching strategies to empower you to take your life in the direction of your choice, since sometimes, once you can see more clearly, you might want to try something different.

My first session

In our first 50 minute session we'll complete an initial assessment together, and I'll get an overview of what has brought you to counselling. We'll also explore what you hope to get out of counselling. It's a chance for you to get a sense of what counselling can offer you, and also your chance to make sure that you feel comfortable working with me.
