About me and my therapy practice
After a decade of researching consciousness as a neuroscientist, and a successful academic career, my own personal journey led me into the therapy room first as a client and eventually as a therapist. I have experienced myself and also witnessed in many of my clients how profoundly therapy can transform our relationship with ourselves and the way we live our lives.
I trained in Gestalt counselling, Jungian dreamwork, and mindfulness-based body-oriented psychotherapy. In my practice, I bring together the multiple dimensions of these complementary trainings together with my scientific background. I work relationally and in a person-centred approach, which means that our relationship plays an important role, and we explore together what wants to emerge inside you in a safe, non-judgemental and organic way. Most importantly, I create a safe space, where we together understand and allow the unfolding of your unique experience without bringing in any top-down dictates of how you should be.
Alongside general therapeutic work, I also offer integration sessions for peak experiences and non-ordinary states of consciousness. As a neuroscientist my research focused on non-ordinary states of consciousness including psychedelics and their therapeutic use, meditation as well as disorders of consciousness. Bringing together my scientific knowledge of these states with my therapeutic background, I offer integration support following non-ordinary states, including psychedelic experiences, kundalini awakenings, and other peak or spiritually significant experiences. I do not provide or administer psychedelic substances. My role is to help you make sense of what you have experienced and explore how the insights from these non-ordinary states may be integrated into your everyday life.
Practice description
I offer 50-minute therapy sessions online and in person in Oxford. Sessions usually take place weekly at a regular time, although the length and frequency of our work can be discussed depending on your circumstances and your needs.
In my practice, there is no fixed structure or formula for how a session should unfold. You do not need to arrive even knowing exactly what you want to talk about. We begin with whatever feels most present for you and the exploration unfolds from there very organically. At times, we may focus on something happening in your life now; at others, we may explore recurring patterns, relationships, dreams, emotions, or what you are noticing in your body.
I may ask questions, offer reflections, or observations, but I will not impose an interpretation on your experience. Generally, the way I work is very collaborative, where I hold the safe space and we explore together what is active in you in the here and now. I do not put any diagnostic labels on your experience.
Our work may be short-term and focused on a particular difficulty, or it may develop into longer-term exploration. We can discuss this together as the therapy unfolds.
My first session
I offer a free initial 30-minute online consultation. This gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what is bringing you to therapy, ask any questions you may have, and get a sense of how it feels to speak with me.
I will also ask you some questions about your current circumstances, previous experience of therapy, and what you may be hoping for from our work. You do not need to tell me everything during this first conversation, and there is no expectation that you make an immediate decision.
The consultation gives us both an opportunity to consider whether I am the right therapist for you. If we decide to work together, we will agree on a regular session time.
