About me and my therapy practice
Counselling for Life Transitions: Family and Career
Life is constantly moving and changing and yet sometimes you can feel stuck, lost or unable to respond to the challenges life is throwing you. For some it might be trying to live meaningfully with a devastating loss following a bereavement or separation. For others it might be the challenge of family life – adjusting to life with a new baby, parenting a teenager or contemplating your purpose when your children leave home. Retirement, health scares, career changes even major birthdays can all leave you anxious, unsure and questioning your sense of self and purpose. You might be someone who has spent so much time thinking about what others may want or expect from you, that you can’t seem to work out what the next steps for you could be. If this sounds like you, we can work together to help focus on you and explore the thought patterns and feelings that may be keeping you in that stuck place. Together we can help you gain clarity about what’s going on, help you untangle your wants and needs from others’ expectations and support you in moving forward in a direction you choose with more awareness and understanding.
Who I am
I am an integrative counsellor who has also trained as a coach, a career coach and have a background as an academic psychologist. I am in a unique position to be able to use these different strands flexibly in our work together dependent on your needs.
Who I Work With
I specialize in supporting individuals who are:
• Experiencing life transitions, such as bereavement, having children, career changes, a health event or children leaving home.
• Rediscovering their identity, balancing work, home, and relationships, or exploring life purpose after caregiving roles.
• looking to shift from always putting others first to building a life where they can incorporate their own needs with kindness and care.
Practice description
What does my approach look like?
Our work together will provide a supportive space where you can pause, reflect, and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences. Counselling approaches can be used to explore some of the feelings and past experiences that may still be impacting decisions that you take today. Becoming aware of these unconscious processes can release you to see new options, opportunities or ways of responding. We will navigate this journey with compassion and humanity and help you to view your own life story with kindness. Coaching approaches can help us to focus on your strengths and resources and help you to think creatively about your future and which direction you would like to move in. Coaching can provide some structure and support through the changes you would like to make. I also like to use my psychological background to share psychological insights and knowledge to empower you over time to become your own inner coach/counsellor
What You Can Expect in the Session
Counselling can be a fascinating process, but it can also seem a little daunting too. We will work collaboratively on the issues that you bring. The pace and scope of the work is led by you and focused around where you would like to be. My style is quite interactive, I am not the type of counsellor who is silent or minimally responsive. I’ll engage with you in a way that’s both thoughtful and conversational, using warmth and humour to help build a genuine connection and make our sessions feel natural and collaborative. I offer a 20-minute phone or video call to discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and to help us decide if we are the right fit for each other.
