About me and my therapy practice

Many people come to see me because they are having difficulties with a life transition, are feeling stuck, lost or unsatisfied with life in some way. It’s hard to see the whole picture when it’s happening to you.

You might be living with high levels of anxiety, anger, apathy or just unease. For some, these feelings come about due to an external life event for example, a bereavement, a career change, a health event or even a notable birthday or anniversary. For others, there is just growing awareness that their life or work-place doesn’t seem to fit who they are any more.

Counselling can offer a pause in your life where you can take a breath and focus on you. Our work together can allow you greater clarity and understanding of who you are and what direction you would like to move in. I have trained as an integrative counsellor and coach, a career coach and have a background as an academic psychologist. I am in a unique position to be able to use these different strands flexibly in our work together dependent on your needs.

Using counselling approaches we can explore some of the feelings and past experiences that may still be impacting decisions that you take today. Becoming aware of these unconscious processes can release you to see new options, opportunities or ways of responding. We will navigate this journey with compassion and humanity and help you to view your own life story with kindness. Coaching approaches can help us to focus on your strengths and resources and help you to think creatively about your future and which direction you would like to move in. I also like to use my psychological background to share psychological insights and knowledge to empower you over time to become your own inner coach/counsellor.

Practice description

Counselling can be a fascinating process, but it can also seem a little daunting too. We will work collaboratively on the issues that you bring. The pace and scope of the work is led by you and focused around where you would like to be. My style is quite interactive, I am not the type of counsellor who is silent or minimally responsive. Ultimately, we are two people in a room and I consider you to be the expert on yourself. My role is to focus, reflect, support, be honest with you and value you for the unique person that you are.

Being dual trained as both a counsellor and a coach means that I can be flexible about the approaches that suit you and your situation the best. I find that coaching techniques can be really helpful at later stages of the work to help you implement and support the new changes in your life.

It is essential for you to take some time and make sure that you have chosen someone that you feel comfortable working with. My style of working is calm, non-judgmental, focused and quite interactive. I like to connect to others with warmth, compassion and humour. I offer a 20-minute phone or video call to discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and to help us decide if we are the right fit for each other.

My areas of expertise are living with anxiety, dealing with anger, low self-esteem, work-related issues and grief, bereavement and loss.
