About me and my therapy practice
Deciding to see a therapist can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to managing things on your own. Many people reach out when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others. Therapy can provide a supportive space to explore your inner world, understand unhelpful patterns, and begin to relate to yourself with more clarity and compassion.
I believe that therapy works best when you feel safe, understood, and able to trust the person you’re working with. I am a Psychotherapist and Counsellor with years of experience across public and private settings, working with people from all backgrounds. My way of working is warm, reflective, and empathetic, while also offering thoughtful challenge when this supports change.
I offer both medium and longer-term in-depth therapy, and also work in shorter-term therapy, usually 6 to 20 sessions, when a more focused approach is helpful.
Practice description
I aim to offer a safe, confidential, and supportive space where you can talk openly about what’s been troubling you. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure why certain difficulties keep repeating. Therapy can provide a place to make sense of these experiences and feel less alone with them.
My work is informed by a psychodynamic approach, which explores how past experiences and relationships can continue to shape how we feel about ourselves and relate to others in the present. Often these patterns operate outside of awareness, yet they can influence both personal and professional relationships. Through a trusting therapeutic relationship, we can gently explore these patterns together and begin to understand them differently.
The focus of therapy is to support greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of your inner world. This can help you relate to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours with more compassion and flexibility, creating space for emotional growth and meaningful change.
I work in a way that is responsive to your individual needs. This may involve focusing on particular difficulties or coping strategies, or taking a more reflective approach to understanding yourself and your relationships. I also offer Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), a time-limited model of up to 16 sessions, which focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful relational patterns that may be impacting your close relationships or working life.
My first session
The first session offers an opportunity for us to meet and begin to think together about what has brought you to therapy. It provides space for you to talk about your current difficulties, ask questions, and get a sense of how it feels to work with me. There is no expectation that you need to share everything straight away, and we will work at a pace that feels manageable for you.
I may ask some gentle questions to help understand your situation and what you hope for from therapy. We can also think together about whether short-term or longer-term work might be most appropriate, and whether approaches such as DIT may be helpful. The first session is as much about seeing whether the therapeutic relationship feels right for you as it is about assessment.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like further information before arranging an initial session.
To help you feel comfortable, I offer a 20-minute complimentary Zoom or phone consultation before our first full session. This allows us to explore how we might work together and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
