About me and my therapy practice
Hello & welcome. I’m Jenny, and I specialise in working with parents, mums, dads, kids, grandparents and family groups.
Having children changes us like nothing else. It is only very recently that we are starting to recognise the lasting mental health impact of traumatic pregnancy and birth experiences for Dads as well as Mums. And this is just the beginning for so many of us. We push our mental, emotional and physical health to the outer limits whilst contending with sleepless nights, post partum depression and anxiety and in the age of social media, the endless societal and cultural pressures to make it all look sparkling, fun and effortless. As our children grow up, the details change, but the relentless fears, concerns and stress often remain.
As an experienced psychotherapist, family support manager for a children’s healthcare charity, Mum and Step Mum who has herself lived through traumatic birth, and Post Natal Illness including depression, anxiety and PTSD, I have deep compassion for everyone who has become a parent or childcarer, and feels as though they are lost in the deep, dark woods. This is why I have spent 9 years developing my own approach to family distress, called The Clearing.
Practice description
The Clearing is an holistic approach, context and living therapeutic model, comprised of eight interconnected access points or portals: rest, awareness, compassion, acceptance, connection, listening, gratitude and play. Each portal has the power to guide us and our incessant head noise beyond the world of distractions, inner criticism and anxiety, to a place of stillness within. This still place is where we are revived, nourished and inspired. It is where our true power lies.
The Clearing is non-linear and non-directive. It is a creative, gentle, organic flow, allowing us to effectively navigate and manage our life issues from a place of stillness, strength and clarity. My personal experience and that of the people I work with, is that we only heal and integrate when we feel safe, loved and accepted exactly as we are. This is what I offer to you as an individual, as a couple and as a family: warmth, empathic understanding and gentle guidance to see life through a clearer lens.
I work with anyone and everyone, and I have lots of experience of working with people who identify as neurodivergent, both diagnosed and undiagnosed.
At my East Grinstead Practice, I offer ‘The Clearing Village’ group sessions for parents, grandparents and childcarers, who seek balance and equanimity in their relationships to self and other. I also work with just you, or you and your child, or you as a couple with or without your children present. Additionally, I work multigenerationally with groups of up to 10 people, alongside my husband, who is an experienced psychotherapist and clinical supervisor.
