About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps you have reached a point where things feel difficult to make sense of, or where experiences from the past are still affecting you in the present. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, shame, guilt, anger, relationships or your sense of self. You may know that something needs to change, but not know where to begin.
I work with adults who want to understand themselves more deeply and make sense of what they are experiencing. I offer a warm, thoughtful and non-judgemental space where difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences can be explored openly. I do not believe there is one way of doing therapy; our work is shaped around you, your circumstances and what you want from counselling.
My aim is not to tell you what to do or give you ready-made answers. Instead, I can help you develop greater clarity and understanding, so that you can make choices that feel more aligned with who you are and how you want to live.
Practice description
I am a BACP Accredited Integrative Counsellor working exclusively with adults. Alongside private practice, I work with a specialist service supporting survivors of sexual abuse, sexual assault and rape. This has given me particular experience of working with trauma, anxiety, depression, shame, guilt, anger, difficulties with boundaries and intimacy, self-harm and suicidal thoughts.
My integrative approach draws on psychodynamic, cognitive, existential, humanistic and relational perspectives. Rather than applying one model to everyone, I consider what may be most helpful for you and adapt our work accordingly.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is central to meaningful change. My role is to listen carefully, help you explore what may be difficult to put into words, and work alongside you as you develop a greater understanding of yourself and your experiences.
My first session
Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with matters. It is natural to have questions or feel unsure about beginning therapy, particularly if you have not spoken openly about your experiences before.
I offer an optional free 20-minute telephone or online consultation. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, what you are looking for and whether I might be the right therapist for you.
If we decide to work together, we can then discuss how therapy will work, including the therapeutic contract, practical arrangements and availability.
