About me and my therapy practice
As an integrative counsellor, I am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, which allows me to tailor our work to your unique needs and experiences. Once I have a better understanding of what life is like for you right now, I will draw on the techniques and interventions I feel will be most helpful. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their ethical framework.
My approach is built around 3 phases:
*1/ Building Our Relationship*
I know how important the relationship between client and therapist is, so I take time to build a safe, trusting foundation for our work together.
This is a non-judgemental space, and I will never push you to share more than you are ready for. I’ll listen carefully, reflect back what I’m hearing, and offer insights that may be helpful to you.
*2/ Exploring Themes, Challenges and Goals*
Once we have built that strong foundation, we can begin to explore what might be getting in the way of you living the life you want to live.
I believe our early experiences have a significant role in shaping who we become as adults. The relationships we had, or didn’t have, with our caregivers can have a lasting impact on how we respond to the world and the people in our lives.
By gently looking back together, we can start to notice patterns, explore beliefs you may have internalised, and make sense of your story.
*3/ Working Through*
With a clearer path ahead, we can then begin the journey of change.
This part of the work is about opening up to thoughts and feelings that may have been hidden from view until now. I will support you in meeting whatever comes up, at your own pace.
It is often a process of acknowledging what may have been too difficult to understand at the time, seeing how it affects you in the present, and learning to accept the parts of yourself that you may have denied or pushed aside.
