About me and my therapy practice

I offer in-person private psychotherapy at Oxford Circus in London, as well as online or telephone sessions when required.

I provide a confidential and non-judgemental space to think openly and honestly about your experience. I see clients once- or twice-weekly and particularly specialise in longer-term therapy for lasting change. Over time the work can help with self-understanding and acceptance and allow you to live in a more authentic, emotionally flexible and resilient way.

I work with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and relationship issues, including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, bereavement and other forms of loss, difficulties relating to others including romantic partners, confidence issues, life transitions, hopelessness and loneliness. You may be at a crisis point or you may want to attend to ongoing unhappiness or struggles. Therapy might be a chance to air and work through frustrations or disappointments, or to clarify needs and hopes – but also some of the issues clients feel able to share with me have felt impossible to speak to anyone else about, for example suicidal thoughts, self-harm, risky behaviours, sexual difficulties, abuse, phobias and compulsions.

Having a confidential space to talk can bring enormous relief in itself and simply articulating what’s on your mind to somebody trained to listen can help create a meaningful shift. However, the deeper work of psychodynamic psychotherapy seeks to understand unconscious patterns and internal conflicts and how your past and your early relational experiences might be affecting how you experience the world now and are able to face what life throws at you.

Practice description

I trained within the NHS and, alongside my private practice, have previously worked in NHS services including the Trauma Unit at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust. I am registered with the BACP, the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) and the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists and abide by their ethical codes.

My first session

It can be daunting working out what sort of therapy might be helpful to you, let alone which therapist to make contact with. Personal fit is vital and we would start with a brief phone conversation at no charge, followed by one or more consultation sessions before deciding to work together.  An initial consultation would normally last for 90 minutes to allow you sufficient time to share the issues that have brought you to therapy and let me know about your background, while also getting a feel for how I work.  I will be listening carefully but may ask more questions at this stage than is usual in ongoing sessions.  Subsequent sessions would be 50 minutes and would be once- or twice-weekly, at the same times each week.
