About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Carys. I’m an integrative psychotherapist working with individuals and couples in London Bridge and online.
You may be going through a change in your life or relationships, feeling stuck in familiar patterns, or carrying the impact of difficult earlier experiences. Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking therapy; at other times, there is simply a sense that something no longer feels right.
My approach is relational, grounded and engaged. I bring care and curiosity to the work, but also challenge when it is needed. I won’t sit silently while you do all the talking. I’ll listen closely, ask questions, notice things with you and, when it feels useful, share what I’m thinking.
I’m interested in what is difficult now, but also in how you came to be where you are. Earlier experiences can shape what we expect from relationships, what we allow ourselves to need, and the ways we learn to protect ourselves or manage alone. Therapy gives us somewhere to become curious about these things together, including what happens between us.
Much of my work is with people at points of transition, including changes in relationships, work, identity, parenthood, grief and loss. These can be times when something familiar has shifted and we find ourselves questioning who we are, what we want, or how we want to live.
I also have particular experience working with difficult and traumatic early experiences.
I work with couples too, particularly where there is conflict, distance, difficulty with trust or communication, or a sense of returning to the same painful place. Rather than deciding who is right, I’m interested in what happens between you and what each of you may be trying to communicate or protect.
Practice description
My practice is informed by relational and integrative psychotherapy, as well as further training in somatic approaches. I’m interested in how our experiences are held not only in the stories we tell about ourselves, but in our emotions, relationships and bodies. We can bring attention to all of these in our work where it feels useful.
Alongside private practice, I have worked within specialist services supporting maternal mental health and adults who experienced sexual abuse in childhood. This experience has shaped my understanding of trauma, shame and the ways difficult experiences can continue to be felt in our relationships with ourselves and others.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in the creative arts, and I continue to dedicate part of my practice to people working in creative fields.
I offer both individual and relationship therapy. Sessions are usually weekly and last 50 minutes. I work in person from London Bridge and online.
My individual fee is £85 per session and relationship therapy is £110. I also keep a small number of lower-cost spaces where possible.
I am a Senior Accredited Member of the BACP and have an MSc in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling and a postgraduate advanced diploma in Relationship Psychotherapy. I undertake regular supervision and ongoing professional development as part of my practice.
My first session
Choosing a therapist from a page of profiles is an odd way to begin something so personal. Qualifications and approaches can tell you something, but they can’t tell you whether you’ll feel able to talk to someone.
I offer a brief introductory call before arranging a first session. You don’t need to prepare for it or know exactly what you want to say. It’s a chance to tell me a little about what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions you have, and get some sense of whether working together might feel right.
If we arrange a first session, we’ll have more time to talk about what is happening in your life and what has brought you to therapy now. I may ask about your current circumstances, important relationships and some of your history, but there is no expectation that you tell me everything at once.
You don’t need to arrive with a clear idea of what you want from therapy either. Sometimes that is clear from the beginning; sometimes working out what you need is part of the work itself.
The first session is also a chance for you to get a sense of me and how I work. If we both feel it would be useful to continue, we can agree a regular time to meet.
