About me and my therapy practice
I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step. My aim is to offer a warm, supportive space where you feel safe to talk openly about whatever is on your mind, without fear of judgement. As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, tailoring my work to suit what each client brings and what feels most helpful for them.
In our work together, I will listen carefully and work alongside you to explore the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may be affecting your life. Sometimes people come to counselling with a clear issue they want to address, and other times there is simply a sense that something isn’t quite right. Wherever you find yourself, we can take the time to understand what is going on for you.
I believe that meaningful change often begins with feeling heard and understood. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, allowing you the space to explore difficult emotions, gain new perspectives, and develop greater self-awareness.
My role is not to tell you what to do, but to support you in discovering your own strengths, understanding yourself more deeply, and finding a way forward that feels right for you.
Practice description
My practice is centred on creating a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself and speaking openly about what is going on in your life. I understand that beginning counselling can feel uncertain, so I aim to make the process as supportive and approachable as possible.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to counselling. You might arrive with something very specific you would like to work through, or you may simply want space to talk and make sense of how you are feeling.
Many of the clients I work with come to counselling feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or significant life changes.
In our sessions, we will gently explore the thoughts, feelings and experiences that may be affecting you. I will listen carefully and offer reflections that can help you gain new perspectives and a deeper understanding of yourself.
I work at a pace that feels right for you. Some sessions may involve exploring current challenges, while others may focus on past experiences or patterns that continue to influence your life. Over time, many clients find that counselling helps them feel more confident in themselves, more able to manage difficult emotions, and clearer about the direction they want to take.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other and to explore what has brought you to counselling.
During this session, I will complete an assessment to gain an overall understanding of the areas you would like support with. This helps me build a clearer picture of your experiences and what you may be hoping to gain from counselling. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, and there is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready.
This is also the only session where I usually take notes, as this helps me accurately capture the information you choose to share. After the initial session, our work together becomes more conversational and focused on exploring whatever feels most important for you.
The first meeting also gives both of us the opportunity to see whether we feel comfortable working together, as finding the right therapist is an important part of the counselling process. If you decide you would like to continue, we can then discuss how we might work together moving forward.
