About me and my therapy practice

Hi I'm Sharon Roberts. I'm a genuine and warm person, who will offer you a calm and safe environment to explore whatever is going on for you - whether it's in your present, past or future.

My aim is to support you and help you find the confidence and resources to understand and manage life's challenges in a way that feels right for you.

I am also a Development and Career Coach, and work as a counsellor supporting NHS staff. I have a particular interest in supporting people struggling with work issues, or trying to maintain a work-life balance. But have experience working with a range of issues including working with people who are peri-menopausal and menopausal.

Practice description

I believe the most important part of the counselling process is the relationship between us. So I know how important it is to find the right counsellor. Our work together will be collaborative, I'll be open and honest with you and I'll be guided by what feels right to you. We will work at your pace.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on insights and techniques from a number of approaches. This allows me to tailor my work and style to meet your unique needs and preferences. I've outlined a few of these below:

Person-centred therapy is my core model and means I will work to create a supportive and non-judgemental environment, listening and understanding your experiences from your point of view. I believe that this way of working helps facilitate personal growth and self-discovery, based on your needs and perspectives.

Psychodynamic. We might explore past experiences and relational patterns to help you gain insight and understanding about unconscious thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This fosters a deeper understanding of how past events or experiences may be impacting on your present.

Gestalt. This involves working in your present, looking at what your immediate experiences are. We may identify patterns and explore whether these are helpful to you, or keeping you stuck in a certain way of feeling, thinking and behaving.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). Our work may involve identifying and helping to change negative thought patterns and behaviours. We may use practical strategies to develop more effective ways of coping and increase positive mental well-being.

I believe that to give ourselves the best chance in life - especially during challenging times - we need to look after our minds and our bodies. So our work may involve exploring mindfulness and relaxation techniques, as well as considering diet.

My first session

Our sessions will be held either in person, online or on the phone - depending on your preference.

We will have an initial conversation on the phone and if we agree to work together I'll recommend we do that for five to six sessions before we review how the work is progressing and where you want to go from there.
