About me and my therapy practice
Do you appear to be coping while privately carrying more than others realise? I became a therapist after a long career in the arts, which gave me a deep understanding of how difficult experiences and relationships can continue to affect how we cope, relate and see ourselves.
Perhaps anxiety has become difficult to manage, relationships feel complicated, or you have lost confidence in yourself. You may find it hard to trust people, notice yourself reacting in ways you don’t fully understand, or feel that you’re no longer quite yourself. Past experiences may still feel very present, or perhaps difficult to make sense of at all.
With me, you don’t need to put on a brave face or have everything figured out before we begin. You do not need to minimise what you are going through or worry about being too much or not enough. I will accept you for who you are, however you are feeling and whatever has happened to you. You know yourself better than anyone, and I will stay with you, however difficult things may be.
I believe therapy works through the relationship between two people. I will listen carefully, stay curious and even, if it feels right, gently challenge you if I hear you putting yourself to one side. There may be moments of uncertainty, struggle and vulnerability, but also warmth, ease and a few smiles along the way.
As an integrative therapist, I believe therapy should fit you rather than expecting you to fit a particular approach. I draw on different therapeutic ideas and ways of working according to what feels helpful for you. Understanding begins with curiosity rather than assumption, and I am comfortable with complexity, sensitivity and emotional intensity without needing to simplify your experience or rush towards solutions.
You do not need to arrive with the right words or a neatly explained story. We can begin wherever you are and work at a pace that feels manageable.
