About me and my therapy practice

Thank you for visiting my Bio, I'm Carol.

I am a well experienced Counsellor/Psychotherapist offering long term, medium term and short term counselling/therapy.

I am experienced in working with adults, adolescents and children.

I believe that successful counselling is grown from the therapeutic relationship that we build together. My approach to building this therapeutic relationship with you is through warmth, empathy and groundedness. I offer collaboratively, and at your pace, to look at what most concerns you.

Perhaps you are considering trying counselling for the first time, or perhaps you want to return to counselling with a new counsellor.

You might be looking to explore aspects of yourself, or make sense of your relationships or life experiences.

You might want to explore what is going on for you now, consider what influence the past has and is having, and even look to the future with hope and confidence.

Whatever is going on for you or where ever you find yourself in your journey, then I offer you my respectful companionship to sit or walk alongside you.

I have spent the majority of my career working in community based health settings and in education. I have spent 20 years working in counselling services with adults, young people and children, as a counsellor, a counselling manager, a clinical supervisor and counselling trainer.

As well as working with generic issues such as anxiety, low self esteem, mild to moderate depression, loss and bereavement, I also have particular experience in working with women's issues, with survivors of sexual abuse and coercive control.

I have a particular interest in working with aspects of identity around class, gender, sexuality, culture and race.

I work in a trauma informed and LGBTQIA+ and POC affirmative way.

Practice description

My training has been predominantly within the Psychodynamic orientation and the Person Centred Approach.

In addition I have done some introductory training in Creative Therapies and Outdoor Therapies.

This means that depending on what might be of most benefit to you, I am able to draw on a range of approaches to find that fit.

If you would like more detailed information on these therapeutic approaches I'd be happy to oblige.

I am a registered and accredited member of the BACP and adhere to their Ethical Framework.

I am a member of the BACP Children, Young People and Families division.

I am registered with ICO and comply with their requirements on data protection.

I hold an enhanced PVG for working not only with adults but also with children and young people.

I have professional indemnity insurance for all aspects of my work.

My first session

I am happy to offer a reduced rate for an exploratory meeting with you.

At this initial meeting we will explore the possibility of us working together and if there is a rapport between us.

We will explore a little of what brings you to counselling and what would be important aspects in creating a safe space for you.

I will also give you a clearer sense of how our 50 minute confidential sessions could work, with no obligation for us to go further than this initial meeting if it doesn't feel okay enough.

Thereafter we would agree on a therapeutic contract, to have regular sessions, with consistent opportunities to review our sessions. You will be able to end this therapeutic agreement if you choose to or complain if you are dissatisfied.
