About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Louisa Scarr, a BACP Registered Integrative Therapist. Through Alresford Counselling, I offer a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever may be troubling you.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties or feeling stuck and unsure how to move forward. Whatever brings you to counselling, you don't have to face it alone.

My approach is client-led and integrative, drawing on different therapeutic models to suit your individual needs. I place great importance on building a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable, listened to and understood.

Together, we can explore past experiences, recognise unhelpful patterns and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.

My aim is to help you gain greater self-awareness, improve your emotional wellbeing and move forward with increased confidence and resilience.

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, but you are very welcome to get in touch for an informal conversation about how I may be able to help.

Practice description

My approach to counselling is humanistic, which means I see you as an individual with your own unique experiences, feelings and potential for growth. I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel safe to explore whatever may be troubling you. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, grief or feeling stuck in life, I will work alongside you with empathy, openness and respect. I believe that being genuinely heard and understood is an important first step towards greater self-awareness, emotional wellbeing and positive change.

As a humanistic counsellor, I believe you are the expert on your own life. Rather than telling you what to do or offering ready-made solutions, I help you make sense of your experiences, understand patterns in your thoughts and feelings, and reconnect with your own inner resources. My integrative approach draws on person-centred counselling and other therapeutic perspectives, adapting the work to your individual needs. If you are looking for counselling in Alresford or the surrounding area, I offer a supportive therapeutic relationship where you can explore difficulties at your own pace, develop self-understanding and move towards a more fulfilling and authentic life.

My first session

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. I will invite you to talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you may be struggling with and what you hope to gain from therapy. There will be space for you to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, and you won't be expected to have all the answers. I will also ask some questions about your background and current circumstances, including a risk assessment, to help me understand your needs and ensure that appropriate support and safeguards are in place. We will have time to discuss how we might work together, confidentiality and any questions you may have.

The first session follows the same process whether we meet face to face or online. I aim to provide the same warm, confidential and non-judgemental space in either setting, where you can feel listened to, respected and supported. My priority is that you feel as comfortable as possible as we begin our work together.
