About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative therapist, with a focus on mind and body connection. I have an understanding of different theories which will be applied throughout each session. With an understanding of trauma and how it can remain in the body we will work together to rejoin mind and body.

My journey to becoming a counsellor has included working within the care sector and in schools, with those who have learning disabilities, ASD and ADHD. I completed my initial counselling training levels 2-4 before undertaking my level six trauma training.

Each session will be tailored to you, what works for one client may not for another and this is an important part of our relationship, offering a flexible approach to support your individual needs.

Therapy is a collaborative process, together we create a safe space free from judgement to explore what is present. Exploring elements of stress, anxiety, depression or other issues. I may offer mindfulness or grounding techniques to support you to feel more stable in life. It is not my role to provide advice or answers, I believe you have the ability to find what you are seeking when we create an environment you feel safe to do so.

About me and my therapy practice

Life's path can be windy and uncertain, where and who do you turn to when there are areas you cant resolve? Counselling is the opportunity to discuss with someone without judgement or advice. Instead we will create a relationship where you will be free to make your own choices and decisions which benefit you. Have you ever wondered who you could be? Where you're heading or why life hasn't been how you would have liked? Let's take time and be curious about what's happening? I am able to provide short or long term counselling to suit your individual needs. Throughout the sessions we focus on your topic to provide inner calm.

I am an integrative trauma counsellor and believe you have the ability to come to your own conclusions, I will walk with you on your journey to become curious about what you are experiencing, focusing on both mind and body, working somatically and with parts of self to offer insights and gain new way of supporting your own growth.

I understand how daunting sharing your inner world can be with another, the relationship is built with non judgement, to explore what is most important to you. I offer kindness and compassion to support you on this journey. Through working with mind and body you are able to become connected and be able to make positive changes outside of the therapy room.

Practice description

Being an integrative trauma counsellor means I have understanding of different theories and these can be used in our work together. With person centred at the core of my approach the relationship we build is one where you feel heard, feelings are validated and understood.

Different theories we may use include: internal family systems (IFS), Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) , psychodynamic, somatic and attachment theory.

I work creatively, I may offer the use of the sand tray or using rocks, shells or cards. This allows us to maybe see things differently, it can also be an opportunity to slow down what is happening and recognise the body response. Working with both body and mind supports our system to realign.

I am trained in a three stage trauma model, stabilisation, processing and integration. When considering stabilisation this is ensuring your nervous system is calm and has an understanding of safety to return to. We will work at your pace. Using mindfulness, somatic experiences and creative resources.

Stage two is processing the trauma, working in the current day situation with an awareness of how our past experiences activate our system now.

Stage three is allowing this new way of experiencing to settle in your system and taking it into relationships, with healthier boundaries and supportive skills.

We cannot change what has happened to us but we can change how we process it in our daily lives and its impact now.
