About me and my therapy practice
In my work with clients, I draw heavily upon Humanistic theory to provide a foundation for a therapeutic relationship that is empathetic, client-centred, and conducive to personal growth.
My practice is informed by Humanistic principles, emphasising the establishment of a therapeutic frame, my understanding of human nature, psychological distress, the process of change, and the pivotal significance of the therapeutic relationship.
In practical terms, this means that when acknowledging the unique qualities of each of my clients I foster an environment that encourages clients in self-exploration and personal development.
I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where my clients feel empowered to express themselves authentically.
The Humanistic approach emphasizes the therapist's unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness qualities that I integrate into my practice to build trust and rapport with my clients. By valuing and respecting my client's individual subjective experiences, I aim to facilitate a therapeutic journey that aligns with the principles of Humanistic theory.
Practice description
Hello, I’m Lyn, a fully qualified counsellor with a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I’m registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, so our first session is simply a chance for us to get to know one another. We’ll talk about what’s brought you to counselling, what you’re hoping for, and any questions you may have. Just as importantly, it’s a space for you to sense whether I feel like the right person to support you.
I offer a confidential, supportive space where you can speak freely and be yourself, without fear of judgement. Your privacy is very important to me, and I work in line with BACP ethical guidelines to ensure you feel safe and respected.
Counselling isn’t one-size-fits-all, so I work in a way that’s tailored to you. Together, we’ll gently explore what’s going on for you, make sense of your experiences, and identify what you’d like to change or understand more deeply. Some people come with a specific issue, while others are seeking personal growth or clarity — all of this is welcome.
I place a strong emphasis on listening and truly understanding your unique story. Building a trusting, collaborative relationship is at the heart of my work, and I believe meaningful change happens when you feel heard, supported, and accepted.
Sessions last 50 minutes, and how often we meet is something we decide together, based on what feels right for you. This can always be reviewed as we go along.
My first session
To facilitate an in-depth exploration of your concerns and expectations, the first session is extended, allowing us ample time to get to know each other and establish a solid foundation. As part of this extended session, there is a special rate of £35 which includes our initial consultation and any necessary paperwork.
During our first session, we will engage in an initial assessment process. This assessment is designed to gather relevant information about your background, concerns, and goals for therapy. It provides a structured starting point for our work together and helps me better understand your unique needs.
The assessment may cover a range of topics, including your personal history, current challenges, and the specific goals you hope to achieve through counselling. This process is collaborative, and your input is crucial in tailoring our sessions to best address your individual circumstances.
Please expect to spend some time during our first session completing this assessment. It's a valuable step in ensuring that our work together is personalized and aligns with your expectations.
Subsequent sessions will be charged at the standard rate of £50. Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash, and invoices or receipts can be provided upon request.
If you have any questions or concerns about the fee structure or assessment process, please feel free to discuss them during our session. My goal is to ensure transparency and clarity in all aspects of our therapeutic relationship.
If you have any further questions or if there's anything specific you'd like to address in our first session, please let me know in advance, and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
