About me and my therapy practice

It’s not always easy to talk about what’s going on, especially when things feel overwhelming or have been difficult for a long time. You might be struggling with your thoughts or emotions, or finding it hard to make sense of what you’ve been through.

Many of the people I’ve supported have experienced difficult situations, including trauma, abuse or neglect. It can be hard to trust others or put things into words, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling — we can take things at your pace.

I aim to offer a calm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you feel listened to and understood. Building a trusting relationship is central to my work, and I recognise this can take time.

My approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), alongside a relational and person-centred way of working. This allows us to explore patterns in your thoughts and feelings, while also making sense of your experiences.

Alongside my private counselling work, I have experience supporting both young people and adults across school counselling services and residential care environments. Much of my work has involved supporting individuals who have experienced trauma and may find it difficult to trust others or engage with support.

Practice description

I offer one-to-one counselling in a safe, confidential and supportive environment. Sessions are typically 50 minutes and take place on a weekly basis, although this can be flexible depending on your needs.

My approach is tailored to each individual. Some sessions may focus on exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences in more depth, while others may involve identifying patterns and developing practical ways to manage difficulties. We can work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and there is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready.

I aim to work in a collaborative way, where you feel involved in the process and able to reflect on what is helpful for you. We can review our work together to ensure that sessions remain focused on what you would like to get from counselling.

I have experience working with a range of difficulties, and I understand that people come to counselling for different reasons. My aim is to provide a consistent and supportive space where you feel able to talk openly and begin to make sense of things.

My first session

I offer a free initial 30-minute telephone consultation. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling and what you are hoping to gain from it, and to see whether we feel like a good fit to work together.

There is no obligation to continue after this conversation. I understand that reaching out can feel like a big step, and this initial contact is intended to feel informal and supportive rather than an assessment.

If you decide to continue, we can arrange a regular session time and begin working together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
