About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP registered Psychodynamic Counsellor qualified to Masters degree level. I work with individuals aged 18 and above.

I work in private practice in Hadleigh (Suffolk) and Sudbury. I also work online and at times to suit your schedule.

Each of us gets thrown off balance at times by events and by difficult feelings and thoughts. Each of us benefits from, and deserves, close attention and support. As an experienced counsellor, I provide a quiet, safe space in an often disorderly world. You might be anxious, stressed, sleepless, fearful, sad, overwhelmed and/or feeling stuck. Together we can explore, understand and manage your current worries.

Practice description

The psychodynamic approach uses the counselling relationship to explore your experiences, feelings and patterns of behaviours (conscious and unconscious), at a pace that is comfortable for you. This will help you make better sense of why and where you are in your life, why you currently think and feel the way you do and how to make meaningful changes that last.

I have worked as a senior manager, leading teams in the private and public sectors, as well as a counsellor within the NHS, supporting patients and staff. I am an Honorary Visiting Fellow with the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex.

Career Development

Combining my training in Occupational Psychology and using the psychodynamic approach, I can also work with you on your professional development. A better understanding of yourself, your background, motivations and true values will help you to realise your potential at work and enhance your professional relationships, career planning, confidence and creativity.

My first session

It can be daunting approaching a counsellor for the first time. You might be wondering if therapy will help or  be curious about the differences between various approaches to counselling.  Perhaps you would like to find out if I am someone that you could feel comfortable with and if I will be a good fit for you.  Attending an introductory, 50 minute session (at the standard fee) is a useful way of finding out more about therapy and is an opportunity to discuss why you are seeking help now and how my approach and experience can be helpful to you. We will begin to explore what is troubling you, your experience of counselling and your medical history. This will be an opportunity for us to consider questions and concerns that you have before thinking about what help will be most beneficial for you. This might be short-term counselling, open-ended sessions or a more suitable source of support elsewhere for example. It could be that a further introductory session would be useful to ensure that we arrive at the best way forward for you.
