About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Mary. Are you feeling not like your usual self? Do you have thoughts swirling around your head that you can't make sense of and feels confusing? Does it feel like your life has stopped or gone wrong and you don't know why? I offer a non-judgemental and safe space where you can freely talk through and explore the issues causing you problems in your life that seem to be making you feel stuck.

Accessing therapy can feel difficult and scary. You'll be exploring deeply emotional and personal experiences and feelings with a stranger. I align my working practice to BACP ethical principles, with trust and confidentiality at the core to help you make that first step towards self-care and self understanding.

My Person-Centred way of working puts you at the centre of our therapeutic relationship. This non-directive but powerful way of working helps you explore and unravel using my empathic approach. You will find the right solutions for you that will naturally fit into your life as you find out more about yourself and why you feel like this at the moment.

I provide therapy in the following ways to keep my prices lower and reduce overall costs:

- Online through a trusted platform,

- Face to face on Thursday evenings only,

- Telephone therapy. Some clients find it helpful to talk in their own space with no-one else physically present.

- Home visits where bereavement is the main issue.

We will work together to see how many sessions might be needed, so this could be open-ended or a short term arrangement depending on your needs and wishes.

I work in a safe way, being fully insured and appointing a reliable and knowledgeable supervisor that I trust, to ensure my practice is safe for you.

My fees are kept low to reflect the fact that my overheads are lower, and in recognition of the cost of living crisis currently being experienced by most people.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and is booked in advance.

Payment is also taken in advance to secure the booking time.

Practice description

I trained at Edge Hill University, gaining a First in my counselling degree in Person-centred experiential therapy.

I currently volunteer for Cruse bereavement services and a local counselling charity.

Continual professional development means I am able to provide therapy for issues relating to work stress, anxiety, menopause, emotional problems, relationship problems, trauma.

Bereavement, loss and grief were central to my training because of the effects of COVID-19, but loss also includes loss of our own self. Feelings of grief can be all consuming, coming and going in emotional waves that are difficult to understand. Loss also includes pet loss, job loss, loss of who you thought you were, life changes such as menopause, relocating, loss of family. Getting those thoughts and feelings out with an empathic and compassionate therapist is the first step to understanding what is happening within ourself.

Where you are suffering with grief and unable to talk to others about it, I can offer home visits where that space may be more practical for you, and help you to talk more freely about your thoughts and feelings.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, and a warm welcome to my page.

Self-care is at the heart of mental well-being and physical health. Your search for help is the first step towards feeling well again.

Being able to share your deepest thoughts, feelings, emotions and anxieties in a confidential space with a therapist you can trust is the core of my practice, to help you uncover why you are not feeling like yourself.

Therapy can help you understand yourself better, including why you behave in a certain why and why your emotions respond to situations and people in the way they do. I provide a non-judgemental and safe space where you are free to be your whole self, whatever that may look like, helping you regain your balance and help you look forward to a better future.

Working in a person-centred way means exploring with you at your pace any problems and bumps in life, which may be rooted from something in the past that is now catching up with you, that have now appeared in an uninvited and unexpected way. I can help you explore what is happening for you, with you, in a sensitive and empathic way.

I provide therapy in the following ways to keep prices lower and keep therapy more accessible for clients:

- Online via a trusted platform,

- telephone therapy. Some clients find it helpful to talk in their own space with no-one else physically present.

- walking outdoor therapy weather permitting, as I believe this natural way of working, using the outdoors as an inspirational tool, really helps to focus on the heart of the problem to unravel it.

- I provide home visits where bereavement is the main issue.

We will work together to see how many sessions might be needed, so this might be open-ended or short term depending on your needs and wishes.

I work in a safe way, being fully insured and appointing a reliable and knowledgeable supervisor that I trust, to ensure my practice is safe for you.
