About me and my therapy practice
I believe therapy is about creating a space where people can truly be themselves without judgement, pressure or having to pretend everything is okay. All feelings are valid.
I’m an experienced therapist with 14 years’ experience working with both adults and children, supporting people through some of life’s most difficult and challenging experiences. My approach is warm, compassionate and person centred, and I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change.
Throughout my career, I have developed particular experience in addiction and recovery, working within rehabilitation settings and alongside 12-step programmes. I have supported people through recovery, relapse, relationships, trauma and the many emotional challenges that can sit alongside addiction.
I have also undertaken specialist training in domestic abuse and am a safeguarding specialist, giving me a strong understanding of risk, vulnerability and the importance of creating safe spaces for both adults and children.
Working with children is a particularly important part of my practice. My experience and knowledge of child development help me understand that children often communicate their feelings through behaviour, play and creativity rather than simply through words. I use age-appropriate, engaging therapeutic approaches to help children make sense of their emotions, build confidence, develop resilience and feel safe enough to express themselves. I work at their pace and believe therapy should feel welcoming, accessible and even enjoyable.
Whether I’m working with an adult or a child, I meet each person as an individual. There is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy. I take time to understand the person behind the difficulties and work collaboratively to help them gain insight, build on their strengths and move towards the changes they want to make.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you.
We will talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you are currently experiencing and what you would like support with. I’ll also ask some questions about your background and circumstances so that I can understand you as a whole person rather than simply focusing on the problem.
We can discuss what you would like to get from therapy and agree some initial goals together. I will explain how I work, confidentiality, safeguarding and anything else you may want to know, giving you plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
There is no pressure to have everything figured out before you come. You don’t need to know exactly what you need or where to start that is something we can explore together.
For children, the first session will be adapted to their age and developmental needs. I aim to make the experience feel safe, relaxed and engaging, allowing time for the child to become comfortable and for us to begin building a trusting relationship.
Most importantly, I want you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood and hopeful about taking the next step.
