About me and my therapy practice

Hi, my name is Jac (she/her).

I am a queer, person centred counsellor, offering trauma informed counselling in Leeds, online and by telephone. My practice is safe and affirming for all LGBTQIA+ people, neurodiversity, sex workers, polyamory and kink.

Some of the topics I work with are trauma, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, exploring gender or sexuality, bereavement and grief.

Sessions can be a safe place for you to talk about your thoughts, feeling and experiences or work through and heal from traumatic memories and events. We can also work together to help you develop coping skills and grounding techniques that can allow you to feel more in control and able to be in the present.

Is counselling right for me? I strongly believe counselling can help anyone. Exactly how that will look varies greatly from person to person. You may only need a short amount of sessions to work through a stressful time in your life or you might be looking for longer term counselling to work through past events and how they are effecting you now. You may have experienced moments in your life that have left you feeling of helpless, overwhelmed or doubting your own ability. Through counselling we can work to create a sense of empowerment and build your self esteem. Putting you back in touch with who you are and the amazing things you're capable of.

Practice description

Trauma recovery: I use the phased approach to working with trauma. This starts with an emphasis on establishing safety and stability. Making sure you have the skills and techniques you need to stop the emotions becoming intolerable. When you feel safe and ready we will start to work on reprocessing the traumatic memories so that they become less harmful and overwhelming. I have different techniques for working with traumatic memories which have been created to lesson the distress. There is no one size fits all approach so we will work together to find the ways of working through these memories that are right for you.  The final phase of the work would be looking at your goals and dreams, working on any leftover negative beliefs or feelings and maybe dealing with things you've had to side line while you were in survival mode.

My practice is absolutely open to and suitable for anyone who is not experiencing the effects of trauma. There may be aspects of my trauma practice that would still be useful but it often just means we can skip a few steps in the journey.

My service is a safe and inclusive space for all identities. My sessions will be tailored to you and your needs. We will work together as a team to get you to where you want to be. If you would like to talk to me more please send me an email or text me and I am happy to answer any questions or arrange an intro call.
