About me and my therapy practice
Charlotte Tierney – Counselling Psychotherapist
I work with people navigating life transitions, trauma, health challenges, bereavement, and patterns that leave us people-pleasing, bracing for emotional or physical stress, or disconnected from our own voice.
Four years employment across the NHS and in Private Practice - working with anxiety, depression, and grief - is built upon 20 years work experience in social welfare, child development, and psychology roles and post graduate study.
I bring humour, warmth, honesty, and a non-judgmental energy to our sessions, committed to creating a space where you feel safe to be yourself.
My integrative, relational approach is tailored to your pace and needs, drawing upon evidence-based methods. I am committed to professional, ethical practice and creating a therapeutic space where your experiences matter.
I support clients in building self-compassion, understanding boundaries, and developing confidence in relationships and life choices. I am committed to professional, ethical practice and creating a therapeutic space where your experiences matter.
Practice description
In sessions, we may explore difficult or confusing experiences, life transitions, grief, trauma, health challenges, and patterns that affect your confidence, relationships, and sense of self. I also support clients in understanding boundaries, building self-compassion, and noticing relational patterns that impact wellbeing.
You can expect therapy to be a supportive, reflective process where your feelings are welcomed and understood. Together, we work to help you feel less isolated, find clarity and direction, and discover opportunities for lasting positive change. My aim is to help you feel seen, understood, and empowered to make decisions that feel right for you, at a pace that feels safe and sustainable.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute telephone session so we can get a sense of each other and talk through what you might need. It’s completely okay if you don’t have the words yet, feel unsure where to start, or are feeling nervous, uncertain, or confused — you don’t need to have it all figured out.
I will carry out an informal initial assessment by asking questions to understand your experiences and get a sense of what feels most important to focus on. While I can offer resources and tools where helpful, therapy with me prioritises relationship and reflection through talk and making sense of things together in a supportive and non-judgmental way.
I am warm, value humour and honesty, and am motivated to build trust, safety and self belief.
