About me and my therapy practice
Registered Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist 403559 MBACP.
I have an extensive professional background of working within various reputable therapeutic organisations spanning over twenty years based in Essex, Suffolk and Greater London. I value and embrace each persons uniqueness and work creatively to make sure that counselling and psychotherapy works for the individual.
I offer a private, comfortable and confidential space to engage with my clients freely. I embrace my role not only as a professional counsellor but also as a whole true person. My candid and open nature I believe epitomises the person-centred approach by demonstrating to others permission and acceptance to be their authentic selves.
I have decades of experience of working successfully with some of the UK's most challenging young people, and adults, who have presented with severe emotional and behavioural difficulties. I believe that it is my warm and genuine nature alongside my qualifications that has enabled me to reach those individuals and help to turn their lives around for the better.
I naturally welcome those from the LGBTQ+ communities. I am Sex Positive and Kink Allied. I value each individual in relation to their unique life-story and engage non-judgementally with all. My approach works well with those on the autism spectrum and ADHD traits.
Counselling and psychotherapy with me will bring fresh understanding to your feelings and psychological processes which leads you naturally to growth and healing. Ultimately, allowing yourself to move forward with a more assured sense of self and carrying a much lighter load in life .
Do not hesitate to get in touch for more information, it could be one of the best moves you ever make, as many of my clients have testified.
Practice description
I value the uniqueness of each person in relation to their life story and engage in therapy sensitively with deep respect for personal tolerances.
Person-centred therapy with me promotes natural growth by working mainly in the here and now. However, whilst my humanistic practice is grounded in person-centred theory I am able to draw from other therapy modalities and developmental theories to offer my clients wider psychological perspectives, and work creatively, if needed.
As a therapist I would describe myself as progressively open-minded, creative, honest, curious and unassuming. On a personal level I am candidly open and possess a warm demeanour.
My past experience includes working within organisations such as: The Priory Group, Mind, CAMHS, Therapeutic Communities and Residential Children's Homes, National Autistic Society and Essex County Council.
Feel free to get in touch for a no obligation 20-30minute free consultation, or to ask any questions, by phone or by appointment at my private practice, Colchester Therapy, on the first floor of No.1 Church Street, Colchester, CO1 1NF.
I hold public liability and indemnity insurance and valid enhanced DBS for working with young people.
My first session
For counselling to be its most effective it is so important to find the right person that you feel you can comfortably engage with. Therefore, our first session will mainly be about giving the opportunity for us to get to know each other better.
You will have the opportunity in our first session to share and discuss what brings you to therapy and perhaps any goals that you may wish to achieve. This discussion helps me to ensure that sessions are tailored to meet your needs, preferences and wished outcomes.
As a registered practitioner I am obliged to spend sometime explaining the details and legal implications of our working together, but this should not take too long.
This will include sharing information with you about session times, confidentiality, cancellation policy, payment and contact details etc. These conditions are mainly put in place to ensure that everybody is kept safe and aware of working ethically.
After our first session you will be presented with a copy of the 'working agreement' that I shared with you verbally and you will have the opportunity to discuss any of the conditions and implications within before, and whilst, your weekly therapy sessions commence.
