About me and my therapy practice

So you're looking for someone to talk to and I imagine you have a lot of questions.

→ Who am I?

I am Bukky Maybank, a psychotherapist with a passion for helping women thrive in their lives. I operate in Kingston upon Thames, both in-person and online through Zoom.

→ Do I have experience dealing with your specific issue or concern?

Absolutely. Over the years, I've supported individuals dealing with an array of issues. Whether it's everyday stress, or complex relationship issues, anxiety, depression or trauma, I stand by your side, offering support as you heal, change, and grow. With years of experience in various therapy settings, including NHS counselling services and the Priory Hospital, I've worked with diverse individuals, including those from BAME backgrounds and marginalised communities.

→ What techniques or approaches do I use during therapy?

My approach blends evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, attachment theory, and neuro-linguistic programming. As well as completing an M.A. in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regents University, I continually seek learning from outside of what is institutionalised and deemed legitimate by academia, to ensure I offer you a complete experience on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. Additionally, I integrate wisdom from spirituality, existential analysis, Eastern philosophy, and Jungian psychology to provide a holistic therapeutic experience.

→ How can you know if I'm the right therapist for you?

I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation, as I understand the courage involved in seeking help. This initial conversation is a risk-free opportunity for you to explore whether I'm the right therapist for you.

→ What is the process like for starting therapy with me?

Initiating therapy with me is simple. You can reach out to me via email or phone for an initial consultation. I aim to respond to you within 1-2 working days.

Practice description

I provide counselling in a dedicated and private therapeutic space in Kingston, ensuring a comfortable and confidential environment.

I offer online sessions via Zoom, as well as telephone counselling, accommodating various preferences and needs.

I specialise in women's issues across different life stages, I assist with challenges such as juggling careers, relationships, fertility concerns, menopause, and caregiving.

Additionally, operating integratively allows me to tailor psychological approaches to individual needs, fostering insight and curiosity for clients to better understand themselves and navigate life with more positivity, purpose, and gratitude.

While friends and family support is valuable, sometimes a professional's perspective can offer profound assistance.

Get in touch via email, phone, or this platform; I'm committed to responding promptly and offering the support you seek.

My first session

In the opening session, it's about setting the stage for our journey together. We'll start by revisiting our initial chat, grounding ourselves in what you've shared and getting to know each other a bit more.

This isn't just a routine introduction; it's about building trust and understanding. I'll offer insights into how therapy typically operates and my approach.

Then, it's over to you—to express what you're seeking from counselling and your expectations. We'll talk through your goals and expectations while addressing any questions or uncertainties you may have.

This initial conversation is pivotal, creating a roadmap for our future sessions.

Whether we're meeting online via Zoom or in person, I strive to foster an environment that supports your comfort and convenience, ensuring our journey together begins with understanding and trust.

And if, at the end, you're unsure or seeking more time to decide, that's perfectly okay. I'm here to guide you toward what feels right, even if it means finding support elsewhere.
