About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Carolene. I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I am a Registered Member of the BACP and I adhere to its Ethical Framework and Professional Standards.
I have experience providing counselling within mental health charities and NHS counselling services where clients have presented with a variety of distressing issues. I have additional experience providing specialist counselling to adult survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
We can all experience challenging circumstances and difficult emotions. If you are feeling nervous or anxious about starting counselling, you are not alone. Stepping into counselling can feel overwhelming; but it does not have to be. It can be helpful to talk about your thoughts, feelings and emotions in counselling. Counselling can provide an opportunity to gain new perspectives and to experience personal growth.
Counselling is a collaborative process. I believe you are the expert on your own experiences, as you know better than anyone what you have been through and how your experiences have affected you. We will work together to help you process your experiences and make progress toward the goals you have set for yourself for counselling. I will hold space for you, so that you can talk openly about your experiences and explore your own solutions. I will aim to ensure you feel listened to and understood.
I offer a professional, confidential counselling service, prioritising a trauma-informed approach so that you feel safe, supported and empowered. I work in a primarily person-centred manner, focused on helping you to work through your concerns in a way that feels meaningful and safe to you. The counselling is empathic, sincere and non-judgemental.
Healing is a journey. It is not always linear. It is beneficial to bear this in mind. I encourage you to be gentle with yourself during this time and to allow yourself the time and space you need to support your healing journey.
