About me and my therapy practice
I understand that sharing painful or traumatic experiences can bring up sadness, shame, or guilt.
As a culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive therapist, I commit to creating a space where all parts of you are welcome. I pay attention not only to your inner world, but also the wider systems and experiences that have and continue to shape your life.
Our relationship matters. I intend to be both reflective and transparent, and work with you in a way that feels respectful and attuned. My aim is to offer a space where you can slow down and begin to explore whatever has brought you to therapy.
Many of the clients I work with feel overwhelmed, stuck, or are quietly carrying more than they feel able to. You might struggle with anxiety, shame, people-pleasing, or feeling over-responsible for others. You may be trying to make sense of past experiences, difficult relationships, or parts of your identity that haven't always felt welcomed. You might simply feel disconnected from yourself and want to understand and explore why.
Practice description
I collaborate with you to ensure that my approach aligns with your needs.
My core approach is person-centred. This means I believe you are the expert of your life. Rather than directing or diagnosing, I sit alongside you with curiosity and care, supporting you to explore your experiences at your own pace. We will focus our work on what matters most to you.
Alongside conversation, I may gently integrate somatic awareness, mindfulness, or creative approaches if it feels helpful. For example, we may notice where anxiety shows up in your body, explore patterns in relationships, or use visuals or reflective exercises when words feel hard to find.
Clients often tell me that over time they begin to feel more grounded, less self-critical, and clearer about their needs. Therapy can support you to recognise patterns, build self-trust and move towards living in a way that feels more authentic and satisfying.
We will periodically review your therapy objectives and talk about how we are working together, ensuring we address your changing needs throughout the process.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute introductory telephone or video call so that you can briefly share what has led you to seek therapy at this time. I will tell you a little about me and my practice and answer any questions you may have. At the end of this, we will decide whether we want to continue working together. If yes, we will agree a date and time to have an initial assessment session.
Our first session will be unlike future sessions as I will be assessing your therapeutic needs. I will invite you to share details of any previous counselling experiences you may have had, your individual needs, your therapeutic goals, and how often you would like to have counselling.
I will share the terms of my counselling agreement and begin to explore how we will collaborate with each other.
