About me and my therapy practice

Many of the men I work with feel like they should be able to deal with things on their own.

On the outside, they often look like they’re coping - but underneath may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly on edge.

You might be struggling with anxiety, low mood, self-doubt, or patterns and behaviours that no longer feel helpful. For some, this can show up as overthinking, irritability, feeling disconnected, or finding it hard to switch off.

Reaching out can feel difficult, especially if you’re not used to talking about what’s going on. It’s common to feel unsure about where to begin.

My approach is calm, grounded, and straightforward. I understand that for many men, talking doesn’t always come naturally, so we work in a way that feels comfortable and at your pace. You don’t need to have the right words - just somewhere to start.

I work with adults and young people, specialising in anxiety, low mood, self-worth, addiction, and coping behaviours. Many of the people I work with are new to counselling and may feel hesitant at first - I place importance on helping you feel at ease from the very beginning.

With a background in the military, I understand how easy it can be to push things down and keep going until it starts to affect you.

I offer in-person counselling in Chester and online sessions across the UK, providing flexible support that fits around your life.

If you’ve been thinking about counselling for a while but haven’t taken the step, you’re welcome to get in touch. I offer a free 15-minute consultation - no pressure, just a chance to see if it feels right.

Practice description

TQ Counselling Services is a private counselling practice based in Chester, offering support to adults and young people, with a particular focus on working with men who may find it difficult to open up or talk about what’s going on.

Many of the people I work with feel like they should be able to cope on their own. On the outside, they often appear to be managing, but underneath may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly on edge. This can show up as anxiety, low mood, irritability, overthinking, or feeling disconnected.

I provide a calm, grounded, and confidential space where you can begin to talk openly and make sense of what’s been building up. I understand that for many people, especially men, this can feel unfamiliar at first, so sessions move at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.

My approach is straightforward and down-to-earth. You don’t need to have the right words or know exactly where to begin - just somewhere to start. Together, we can explore what’s going on, build a better understanding of your thoughts and feelings, and find ways forward that feel realistic and meaningful.

I have experience working with anxiety, low mood, self-worth, addiction, and coping behaviours, as well as the impact of past experiences. Many clients I work with are new to counselling, and I place importance on helping you feel at ease from the very beginning.

I offer both in-person sessions in Chester and online counselling across the UK, providing flexibility to suit your needs.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.

Before starting, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. This gives you the chance to ask any questions, talk briefly about what’s brought you to counselling, and see if you feel comfortable moving forward.

In the first full session, there is no pressure to share everything straight away. We will begin at a pace that feels manageable for you. I may ask some gentle questions to understand what’s been going on, what you’d like support with, and what you hope to gain from counselling.

For many people, especially those new to therapy, it can feel unfamiliar or even uncomfortable at first. This is completely normal. My aim is to create a calm, grounded space where you can start to talk openly without feeling judged or rushed.

We will also go through any practical details, such as confidentiality, session structure, and how we will work together, so you feel clear and informed from the outset.

The first session is not about having the right words or knowing exactly where to begin - it’s simply a starting point.
