About me and my therapy practice

People seek therapy for many reasons. Life can sometimes leave you with feelings of depression, anxiety, a lack of confidence, anger, or loss.

I offer counselling for adults, young adults, and couples. It may be that you carry a sense of emptiness or unhappiness, or perhaps you are unable to name the dread you feel. This can lead to confusion, second-guessing yourself, or painful internal conflict. You might feel lost, with no clear way of moving forward, or perhaps you need to deal with a specific past trauma.

My approach is Psychodynamic. This involves helping you gain a deeper understanding of your feelings, experiences, and behavior—past and present. We focus on bringing the unconscious into the conscious. Our pasts often have a powerful influence on our relationships and how we deal with what life throws at us today.

Sharing your thoughts and fears in a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental environment can ease mental pain and bring fresh insight. This clarity facilitates change and helps you move forward.

I work in private practice only (www.thetherapyjw.co.uk) and am a member of the BACP, adhering strictly to its ethical framework. I am also a clinical hypnotherapist and can integrate this into our sessions if we identify that it would be helpful for you.

Practice description

Together, we will seek out the patterns in your relationships, your work, and your life—as well as those that emerge within the therapy room itself.

The insight you gain from our work together will offer you new options for thinking and acting, allowing you to step outside of old, historical responses. Ultimately, this can lead to internal growth and change, helping you feel "unstuck" and better equipped to carry on with life.

My first session

Our first session will begin, as they all do, with you talking about what is on your mind. Unlike subsequent sessions, I may ask a few specific questions to help me understand you and the issues you wish to face.

We will use this initial meeting to clarify what you want out of therapy and decide which methods will best suit your needs. We may utilize one or more of the following approaches:

Psychodynamic Counselling: Longer-term therapy designed to bring unconscious drivers to your conscious attention, exploring their impact on your current relationships and life.

Creative Writing Therapy: Through the analysis and discussion of your written work—poems, stories, scripts, or essays—we can explore your internal world and identify emerging themes.

Short-Term 'Grief to Growth' Plan: A focused plan combining elements of the above to help you through the worst of emotional pain, such as bereavement, relationship breakdown, or betrayal. This is designed to support you through the transition into a new chapter of life, helping you move from pain toward growth.
