About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor, trained in the Integrative therapeutic approach. I have been in practice for 12 years.

I am a registered and fully accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have twelve years experience working independently with clients with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, bereavement, relationship difficulties and most major life changes.

I trained for 3 years with a systematic psychotherapist in family and systemic work across schools in West Sussex, working with families experiencing significant difficulties, on a one-to-one basis with individual family members.

Creating a safe and supportive space for my clients is key to my practice.

I offer a 30 minute introductory session free of charge.

My fees are £50.00 an hour.

I am happy to discuss reductions for students or those in receipt of benefits.

Practice description

My sessions are very much tailored to each individual client's needs.

I start by getting to know the client, listening to their concerns and developing an understanding of what has brought them to therapy, as well as their expectations and goals.

Clients often share a great deal in the first session. From this, we can develop a loose plan for our work together, drawing on different therapeutic approaches and techniques according to what seems most appropriate for their individual needs.

As a broad guide, my approach is informed by principles of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). This involves exploring how patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationships may have developed, often in response to earlier experiences. We then consider whether these patterns are being repeated in the present and how they may be contributing to current difficulties. From there, we can explore and develop different ways of responding and being.

As our work progresses, the focus may lean more towards a psychodynamic approach, exploring how unconscious influences and past experiences may be affecting the present, or towards a more practical CBT approach, using simple exercises and monitoring thoughts, feelings and behaviours and the effect of making changes. For many clients, I find that a combination of these approaches works particularly well.

I see therapy as something that is very much driven by the client. My role is to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space, while offering professional experience, different perspectives and therapeutic tools to help the client explore what is important to them and find their own way forward.

Ultimately, I would hope that clients feel they have been able to do some difficult, and sometimes painful, work in a safe and supportive environment; that they have learned more about themselves, developed greater understanding of their patterns and responses, and feel better equipped to make meaningful changes in their lives.
