About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Della and I have been where you are now, looking for some help to ease emotional pain.  Having found the support I needed in Person-centred therapy, now, as a therapist myself I would like the opportunity to help you.  I understand how difficult it can be to: accept that help is needed, expose vulnerabilities to a stranger, explore patterns of thinking, or even just work out what it is that's making this chapter of life so difficult.  I appreciate how seeking therapy, and consequently engaging in it can feel pretty daunting, and as such requires both courage and commitment to take that first step.

Taking a Person-centred approach I believe that you have the answers that you need; you are just struggling to access them.  I can provide a non-judgmental, comfortable and supportive space for you to address whatever is troubling you at this time in the hope of uncovering these answers.  My practice is non-directive, that is, you decide what to talk about and we will work at your pace.

I have experience with working with many different client groups, but I have a particular interest in working with survivors of sexual violence.  I currently work with West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WMRSASC) as a counsellor with survivors of sexual violence.

I have also previously worked with the mental health charity MIND as a counsellor.

Practice description

  • I offer an initial, informal free 20 minute phone call for us to chat and decide whether we can work together.  I can get to know a little bit about you and what it is you would like to gain from therapy and me, although don't worry if this is not obvious to you at this point.  You can also ask any questions of me.
  • I do not provide diagnoses or advice for you to follow, but what I will do is both, gently challenge your current thinking patterns as well as invite you to explore different ways of thinking.
  • I require payment in advance of our sessions.  Please ask for details in your enquiry.
  • I will send you a copy of my counselling agreement before our first session, via email if available, for you to read.  This will include points such as: agreed times of sessions, payments and cancellation policy, confidentiality, any notes I make and a privacy statement.  If you have any questions from this you can contact me either before, or at the beginning of the first face-to-face session.

My first session

  • At the beginning of our first session together we will go through the agreement, if needed, and then we will sign two copies so that we have one each.
  • I will also need to go through an initial assessment with you, to include any expectations and/or hopes that you may have for our work together as well as any medical and family history.
