About me and my therapy practice
I believe that therapy works best when you feel heard, understood and accepted, without fear of judgement. My approach is warm, collaborative and tailored to your individual needs.
I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), alongside a person-centred approach. Depending on what you bring to therapy, we might explore patterns of thinking and behavior, understand difficult emotions, develop practical coping strategies, or look on how you can move towards a life that feels more meaningful to you.
I have a particular interest in how trauma, difficult relationships and significant life experiences can affect our confidence, boundaries, relationships and sense of identity. We can explore these experiences at a pace that feels manageable, without pressure to share more than you feel ready to.
I see therapy as a process we work through together, rather than something done to you. My aim is to help you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, recognise patterns that may no longer serve you, and feel more confident in your own choices.
You don't need to know exactly what you want to achieve before starting. We can begin with where you are now and work together to understand what might help.
Practice description
Maybe you've been carrying a log for a long time. You may appear to be coping on the outside while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected or unsure of yourself inside.
Maybe you've experienced a difficult relationship, trauma or abuse, or you are navigating a significant life change. You might find yourself questioning your decisions, struggling to set boundaries, feeling lost, or wondering how to move forward. Sometimes when circumstances begin to change, it can be difficult to regain your confidence and feel more like yourself again.
I offer counselling to adults who want to make sense of what they are experiencing, work through difficult feelings and find a way forward that feels right to them. My experience and interests include trauma, domestic and sexual abuse, relationship difficulties, anxiety, low self-esteem and significant life transitions.
As someone originally from Brazil who has built a life in UK, I also understand how changes in culture, identity and belonging can shape our experiences. I offer counselling in both English and Portuguese.
I aim to provide a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you can explore what's happening in your life and feel supported in making meaningful changes. You don't have to wait until things become unbearable, and you don't need to have all the answers before reaching out.
If something here resonates with you, I welcome you to get in touch to discuss whether we might be a good fit.
My first session
Starting counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you never had therapy before or you're unsure where to begin. You don't need to prepare anything or know exactly what you want to say.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin to exploring what has brought you to counselling. I will invite you to share what's been happening in your life, what you have been finding difficult and what you would like support with. We'll also discuss what you hope would change and any questions you have about the counselling process.
I'll explain how I work and we'll consider together how counselling might help. You can share as much or as little you feel comfortable with; there's no expectation to tell the whole story in one session.
Building a trusting therapeutic relationship takes time, and its important that you feel comfortable with the person you choose to work with. The first session is an opportunity for us to begin establishing that connection and decide how best to move forward.
You are welcome to ask questions or let me know if something feels difficult. We will work together at a pace that respects your needs.
