About me and my therapy practice

Calm, supportive therapy when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Maybe your mind rarely switches off. You overthink conversations, worry about what other people think, put pressure on yourself to get things right, or find yourself constantly trying to keep everyone else happy. From the outside, you might seem like you’re coping well, while inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted or simply not good enough.

You may know something needs to change but not know where to start. Or perhaps you’ve spent so long pushing through and putting other people first that you’re not even sure what you need anymore.

I offer a warm, calm space where you don’t have to pretend everything is fine. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what to say or what you want from therapy. We can start wherever you are.

I’m a Person-Centred Experiential Counsellor and Psychotherapist. My approach is gentle, collaborative and neurodivergent-informed. I won’t tell you what you should do or rush you towards a solution. Instead, we can explore what’s happening beneath the anxiety, self-criticism or overwhelm, helping you understand yourself and the patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck.

I work with both adults and young people, with a particular focus on anxiety, self-esteem, stress and burnout. I also have experience supporting neurodivergent clients, as well as people experiencing low mood, difficult past experiences, relationship difficulties, perfectionism and people-pleasing.

Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor with Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, supporting young people and adults with a range of emotional and mental health difficulties.

Therapy can help you understand yourself with more compassion, recognise what you need and feel more confident in yourself and the choices you make.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Wilberfoss, near York, as well as online counselling across the UK.

Practice description

Starting therapy can feel daunting, particularly if you’re used to dealing with things on your own, or you’re unsure what you would even say in a session. You don’t need to prepare anything or have everything figured out before we begin.

Sessions are relaxed, supportive and led by what feels important to you. You can bring whatever has been on your mind that week, explore something from your past, or simply start with how you’re feeling that day. If you’re unsure where to begin, I can offer gentle questions and reflections to help us explore things together.

Our work might involve understanding anxiety and overthinking, exploring self-critical thoughts, recognising patterns such as people-pleasing or perfectionism, or making sense of stress and overwhelm. We may also explore boundaries, relationships, difficult past experiences, identity or the pressure you place on yourself.

There is no expectation to make progress at a particular speed. Some sessions may bring new realisations, while others might simply give you a much-needed space to talk, process and feel heard. Over time, therapy can help you understand yourself and your patterns more clearly, respond to yourself with greater compassion and feel more confident in recognising what you need.

I work in a neurodivergent-informed way and understand that traditional approaches to therapy do not suit everyone. We can adapt how we work together around your communication style, processing needs and what helps you feel most comfortable.

Sessions are available face-to-face in Wilberfoss, near York, or online across the UK via secure video call. I work with both adults and young people.

Before booking your first session, I offer a free 15-minute introductory call. This allows us to briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

If you feel we could be a good fit, you’re very welcome to get in touch.

My first session

Before your first therapy session, I offer a free 15-minute introductory call. This is an informal opportunity to briefly talk about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

Your first full session is 50 minutes. You don’t need to prepare anything, write anything down or know exactly what you want to talk about. We can simply start with what has been happening for you and what you would like some support with.

I’ll talk you through confidentiality and how our sessions will work, and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions.

Most importantly, I won’t expect you to tell me everything in your first session. You are in control of what you share, and we will go at a pace that feels manageable for you. Some people arrive with a clear idea of what they would like to work on, while others simply know that something doesn’t feel right or that they would like things to change. Both are completely okay.

Towards the end, we can talk about how the session felt and whether you would like to continue working together. If you do, we can discuss what would suit you best, including weekly or fortnightly sessions.

Sessions are available face-to-face in Wilberfoss, near York, or online via secure video call, depending on what works best for you.

The first session isn’t about telling your whole story or trying to fix everything at once. It’s simply the beginning of getting to know one another, understanding what you need and seeing whether therapy with me feels right for you.
