Availability

Sessions typically run following the school calendar, on a half termly basis.

Sessions are payable in advance of the first session, usually in half term blocks. This secures the slot in the therapist and child or young person’s diary for the half term and gives clarity and commitment to the work on both sides.

About me and my therapy practice

Are you, or do you have a child, struggling to make sense of emotional, social, or behavioural difficulties? Is this impacting relationships at school, college, or university, or affecting family life? I am a specialist Psychotherapist with my work rooted in the importance of connection and building trusting relationships. I am committed to empowering children and young people to explore their strengths and build their sense of self, and to make sense of their complicated and confusing feelings. Through this therapeutic relationship we collaboratively explore alternative ways of thinking, feeling and behaving to create a positive way to successfully negotiate the future.

As a qualified Integrative Counselling Psychotherapist, specifically trained to support children, adolescents, and their families, I offer a compassionate space for clients to come and share and explore their feelings, difficulties and experiences. Alternatively, on-line sessions can be arranged where appropriate.

Practice description

The session is 45-50 minutes long and takes place in the den, a dedicated room in my garden that is equipped with a range of resources  including imaginative play toys,  sand tray, sensory toys, art materials including collage, paints and clay and also a range of games such as Connect 4, Dobble, and Uno.

It is a safe space, free from intrusions to meet weekly. Everyone is  encouraged to explore the space and make use of any of the materials in any way they wish.

The only rules are that they are not allowed to hurt themselves or the therapist, and if I was worried about their safety, I would have to let appropriate people within safe guarding know.

My first session

I’m a parent and I want to refer a child or adolescent for counselling:

Contact me to  arrange a free 15 minute phone consultation. This gives us an opportunity to discuss your worries from your perspective. I will ask questions to gather information to see what may be useful to support your child. Together we can decide how to move forward.

If we agree to do so, I will book your child in for an Initial Assessment , which will last 50 minutes. For younger children, or those anxious about coming, we can discuss ways to make the session less overwhelming. During this time, we will explore  whether and/or how best, we can work together.

Following the Initial Assessment, if we are all in agreement, we will arrange a regular session time, each week, where I will meet with  your child.

I'm a young person and I want to refer myself for counselling:

If you are over 18 then you may self-refer phone or email.

If you are under 16, depending on your circumstances we may have to seek parental consent or consent from whoever is your legal guardian.

If you are under 16, I would recommend that you speak with your parent/guardian(s) about wanting to explore counselling and if they agree, I am happy to hold a Consultation with you.

Depending on your age and ability to provide consent for therapy, it may be appropriate to begin therapy without the parent/carer. This will be discussed during our Consultation and addressed on a case-by-case basis.
