About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Emma!

Welcome to Your Space Counselling- A calm, warm, genuine space filled with compassion and all the space that you need to be able to explore what is present for you. I will sit alongside you to explore whatever it is that you bring into our therapy space. My hope is that you will feel safe, seen, heard and validated.

I am an integrative, humanistic therapist; I draw from different therapeutic approaches based on your wants, needs and the journey you are on. These therapeutic approaches might be ideas and techniques taken from: person centred therapy, existentialism, gestalt, CBT, mindfulness practices, emotion focussed therapy and different creative methods for those who wish to use them.

I work relationally and can sit alongside you to explore your inner world and the difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are having an effect on you, whilst making sense of what that all means for you.

Everyone experiences life's curve balls differently. You may be experiencing hardships in life and want to work to understand these more deeply. I am experienced in working with a wide range of difficulties, including (but not limited to): depression, anxiety, loss, substance use, abuse, trauma, unresolved childhood issues and upbringing, parenthood, feelings of low self-esteem, changes in circumstances such as health, relationship or life transitions. Whatever it is that you are navigating our work will be centred on you and the outcomes you wish to achieve. I will sit alongside you and hold a space for you to explore and understand those things.

Therapy types I can offer: Face to face, online, phone, outdoor, walking

I hold additional certificates in:

- Telephone and online counselling

- Walking/outdoor therapy

- Trauma informed work and the associated techniques

- Therapy for pregnancy and infant loss, pregnancy after loss, infertility

- Advanced certified practitioner- infant and baby loss

Practice description

I am an experienced, BACP registered, Swansea based counsellor (but can offer online support, so can see you from wherever you are in the UK)

It is my belief, and my own experience, that with the right environment, support and conditions, a person can build on their own strengths to improve their emotional wellbeing and move forward in a more positive way; whatever that looks like for them. My role here is to sit alongside you while you explore that.

What might therapy with me offer:

A space to be safely held- Your Space Counselling can offer a space for you to explore what its like to be yourself, exactly as you are.

A space to be heard- Share what is on your mind, what is present for you or difficult thoughts, without judgement

A space to make sense of your world- your inner and outer worlds and your experiences and how they affect you

A space to explore as deeply as you need- together we can explore what’s present for you, how to work with that, where that may have come from and how you might navigate it for your future

A space to find relief, balance, peace or acceptance- sometimes sharing what we have held in can be just the thing we need to make it feel just that little bit lighter.

A space to move where you need to- Where you want to get to is your decision and I can sit beside you to help you to get there

In addition to private counselling sessions, I also offer sessional counselling within an organisation. Within this, I work with self-referred clients, clients referred from the work place (EAP- Employment Assistance Programme), project specific clients (bereavement and substance use projects)

I am also a counselling tutor for a local counselling training provider. Tutoring students who are currently in the process of qualifying as a counsellor themselves.

My first session

I recognise that for many people, it can be quite scary to start this kind of work with someone, especially if this is your first experience of counselling. I am happy to answer any questions you might have either by email or phone.

In order for you to decide whether you feel we are a suitable fit, I can offer a free introductory 15-minute discussion either by phone, online or face to face.

During this session we can get to know each other a little bit and see if you feel that counselling with me is something that you would like to continue with. We can talk about what is bringing you to therapy and what therapy with me might look like, what you might need and whether you have any goals for your therapy journey. At this point I would send you a contract to boundary our work and communicate what times are available for your sessions.

I also offer concessionary rates subject to discussion.
