About me and my therapy practice

From the outside, it can look as though you are coping. You keep going, get things done, and meet what is expected of you. Inside, though, life can feel heavy and relentless. You may be managing so much that you’ve lost your sense of yourself along the way.

You might feel overwhelmed much of the time, yet unsure what could ease the pressure. Even when you stop, your mind doesn’t. There is little space to reflect, to feel, or to recognise what you need anymore. Life can look fine on the surface, while inside you feel flat, drained, or disconnected from yourself.

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for adults experiencing burnout, stress, anxiety, depression, and emotional disconnection. Sessions are available in person from my private practice in Southampton, and online across the UK.

I’m Esther Dietrichsen-Farley, a Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and founder of The Farley. I work with people who have spent years managing, adapting, and holding things together for others, while privately feeling exhausted, unseen, or lost beneath the weight of it all.

You might notice emotional numbness or disconnection, anxiety that does not switch off, ongoing stress and exhaustion, a loss of direction or identity, or repeating patterns in relationships that leave you feeling frustrated or unseen. There may be a quiet sense that something is missing, even when life looks “fine”.

What you can expect in sessions

Therapy with me is steady and conversational. There is no pressure to perform, explain yourself neatly, or have everything figured out. What matters is that you feel understood, while we explore what has been weighing on you and what may have been lost along the way, at a pace that feels right for you. Change tends to emerge through being fully met and heard, and through taking time to understand what is happening beneath the surface.
