About me and my therapy practice

I understand the people who work hard to keep everything together, yet find yourself feeling overwhelmed, stuck or unfulfilled. My clients are often people who’ve spent a long time looking after everything or everyone else and are now recognising that they need to think about themselves too. Perhaps you’ve become so used to putting other people’s needs first that you’ve quietly neglected your own. You may look to everyone like you’re coping on the outside, while inside you’re feeling anxious, exhausted, disconnected or unsure about what you really want.

I know how the juggle of commitments like work, family, relationships and other responsibilities can leave us with little time to think of ourselves. This can leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious or worn out, especially if a curve ball or unexpected news is thrown our way.

If this sounds familiar this is where many of my clients start. I offer a calm, supportive space alongside practical therapy-based tools to help make sense of what you're going through and explore what could help you feel more comfortable, confident and fulfilled. You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to a session with me, we can begin wherever you are and work things through together.

My approach is warm, collaborative and most importantly it’s practical. I believe therapy should give you space to understand yourself and think about the longer term, but also give you practical ways to make life feel a little easier right now.

If you’re considering reaching out but aren’t sure whether therapy is right for you, you’re very welcome to request a short complimentary telephone call with me. This gives you an opportunity to ask any questions and get a sense of whether I might be the right therapist for you.

I’d love to hear from you, so please feel welcome to get in touch.

Practice description

Qualifications and Experience

Sessions with me draw on my qualifications in Person-Centred Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy, alongside my academic background in Biological Sciences. This means I can draw on my scientific background to help you understand the biology of stress or anxiety and how this might be affecting the way you think, feel and respond.

Alongside my qualifications, I have professional experience providing therapy across corporate, NHS, charitable and educational settings, including SEND. I have worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and perinatal mental health difficulties. This has given me a broad understanding of the different pressures people can face and the importance of tailoring therapy to each individual client.

As well as in person sessions from my office in Hessle, I offer daytime and evening sessions remotely via Microsoft Teams or telephone. I offer this as I appreciate the value that online sessions provide you with the convenience, flexibility and privacy of having your session from a place where you feel comfortable.

You are welcome to have younger children present during online sessions as I understand childcare is not always available.

I work with clients local to East Yorkshire and also nationally across the UK.

My first session

What happens in our first session?

Our first session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you might like to be different and what you hope to gain from our work together. You don’t need to know exactly what you need before contacting me. We can begin by making sense of things together.

Together we can explore what is happening for you, how it affects your relationships and everyday life and where appropriate, some of the deeper patterns that may be influencing how you feel.

As our work progresses, we can regularly review how you feel therapy is going and recognise the changes you’re noticing. I want therapy to feel collaborative, so there is space for you to let me know what is working for you and anything else you might need from our sessions.

If you'd like a short complimentary phone call prior to booking your first session with me I am happy to offer this on request. This gives a quick opportunity to ask any questions you may have and get a feel for what working with me may be like for you.
