Availability
I currently have availability for new clients who would like to work online or on the telephone.
I am happy to answer any questions or provide information about my availability. Please call or text me on the mobile number above.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with people who are capable and self-aware but stuck in patterns they can't shift - anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, perfectionism, burnout or a difficult relationship with food or their body.
My aim is to create a warm, non-judgemental space where you feel safe to have the conversations you've perhaps never had before, and supported to write a new chapter in your life story.
What it's like to work with me
This is where I hand over to my clients to give their experience of our work together:
"With Karen I feel safe and supported to reveal all sorts of aspects of myself and to explore uncomfortable and difficult topics. She has helped me to realise and understand many things that are going on for me, and to find ways to work with them. I also find working with Karen great fun – she brings humour and intelligence to our sessions and I always look forward to speaking with her." Online client
"Karen is empathetic, compassionate and professional. Through her calm and patient approach, she has helped me gain the confidence to explore difficult issues." Telephone client
"I have been working with Karen for over a year now, and I have found it tremendously productive and helpful. When we began working together, I was depressed and fearful about life. With Karen's help, I am now joyful and excited about the future." Online client
How we work together
We can work together on a short or long term basis depending on what you need. Some people come with a specific issue they want to focus on, others prefer to work more openly over time.
Whatever brings you here, we'll check in regularly on how things are going and adjust our focus as necessary.
Conditions I work with
Areas I regularly work with clients on include:
- Anxiety and worry
- Low self esteem
- Low confidence levels
- Perfectionism
- Emotional & disordered eating, bulimia, obesity, binge eating
- Body image
- Women's issues
- Depression and low mood
- Relationship and/or family issues
- Career difficulties
- Burnout
- Loss
Practice description
The aim of my practice is to help my clients deal with the issues they are experiencing and make lasting changes in their life.
What to expect
My role isn't to fix anything. Instead I walk alongside you, providing support and encouragement as you take the next steps forward in your life.
You can expect encouragement, gentle challenge and appropriate humour. A space where anything you bring will be welcome, including the things you've never said out loud before.
Practical & holistic
My approach is practical and holistic. We won't just discuss how you feel but also understand what's driving it, find the root causes and help you make changes that last. Between sessions we'll find small things you can try to put things into practice and build momentum. We will consider your whole wellbeing, not just your mental health. Your physical health, lifestyle, work, relationships and your sense of how you look and present yourself to the world are all part of the picture.
Counselling style
You can find out more about my practice and read client testimonials on my website, https://karentoms.com.
I am trained in a variety of counselling techniques and tailor my approach to your needs. For eating disorders I draw on the model developed by the National Centre for Eating Disorders. I also use creative Gestalt techniques including sketching, visualisation and working with the body when they're helpful.
You can find out more about my practice and read testimonials from my clients on my website, https://karentoms.com.
