About me and my therapy practice

Are you and your partner struggling to connect — caught in the same arguments, growing apart, or feeling like something important has been lost between you? Perhaps desire has faded, trust has been damaged, or you're trying to navigate a relationship structure that most therapists simply don't understand.

I'm Mark Ryan, an integrative psychotherapist and Registered Relationship Therapist (NCPS), working exclusively in person with couples and people in diverse relationship structures across London. I specialise in couples therapy, relationship and intimacy challenges, desire and sex, and working with LGBTQ+ clients and those in ethically non-monogamous or polyamorous partnerships. My role isn't to take sides or decide outcomes. It's to help partners slow down, hear each other differently, and make sense of what's actually happening between them — so they can make conscious choices about the future, whether that means rebuilding connection or separating with clarity and care.

I draw on Imago Relationship Therapy, the Gottman Method, Systemic, Attachment-Based, and Psychodynamic approaches, tailoring the work to what each relationship genuinely needs. My practice is affirming, sex-positive, and inclusive of all relationship structures and identities. I work from private therapy rooms in Pimlico, Kensington, and Angel, Monday to Friday afternoons and evenings.

Practice description

Much of our work together focuses on understanding the narrative of your relationship — the patterns that keep repeating, the roles each partner has learned to play, and the underlying needs that often go unspoken. By making these dynamics visible, without blame or judgement, new ways of relating can begin to emerge. I use an integrative approach drawing on Imago, Gottman, systemic, attachment-based, and psychodynamic thinking. In practice, this means balancing emotional insight with practical tools — helping you understand what triggers conflict or distance, communicate more openly, and respond with greater empathy in the moment.

I work with a wide range of relational challenges, including communication breakdown and conflict, emotional disconnection, betrayal and trust repair, desire and intimacy difficulties, mismatched needs around sex or relationship structure, and the impact of stress or trauma on closeness. I also have significant experience working with LGBTQ+ couples, ethically non-monogamous and polyamorous partnerships, and clients navigating sexual identity or desire within their relationship. Sessions invite curiosity rather than blame. I hold both partners' perspectives with care, bring structure to conversations that might otherwise feel circular or overwhelming, and help you find clarity about what each of you needs — whether that leads to renewed connection, a redefined relationship, or a compassionate separation.

Clients often describe working with me as calm, grounded, and gently challenging. My goal is not to fix but to understand — and to create the conditions for change, closeness, or resolution to emerge.

My first session

Reaching out to a therapist can feel daunting, particularly when what you're carrying feels vulnerable or hard to put into words. Many couples tell me they weren't sure exactly what was wrong — just that something wasn't working.

To make that first step as easy as possible, I offer a free 30-minute introductory conversation — in person or online. This is an informal chat, not a full session. We'll talk briefly about what's brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and whether I feel like the right fit for you.

There's no pressure and no obligation. If you decide to go ahead, we'll arrange a first full session from there.

You can book your free introductory conversation directly here: https://www.riseandgrowtherapy.co.uk/free-consultation — or simply send an enquiry using the contact form on this page and I'll get back to you within one working day.
