About me and my therapy practice
I am an autistic counsellor supporting autistic adults with navigating life.
Do you think you might be autistic or have already had a confirmed diagnosis? Are you now wondering what autism means to you?
Perhaps your feelings escape you. It's a challenge to distinguish, name and manage them. People seem to misunderstand you often.
Have you been an outsider for as long as you can remember? Never quite fitting in?
Maybe it's time to make peace with your differences. Realising that things could be better is the first step towards positive change. If you are ready to move on from autistic and struggling to brilliantly autistic, you are in the right place.
I help you to:
- discover your genuine self
- manage emotions
- negotiate fulfilling relationships
- thrive at work
My approach to therapy is centred on encouraging the clients to regain a sense of control. As we gradually rediscover own resourcefulness, creativity and autonomy, a great deal of negative symptoms subsides.
Previous clients said they had found the sessions beneficial and walked away with renewed hope. Reach out! I would be delighted to support you.
Practice description
There is no magic in counselling. But there is a great deal of usefulness in being listened to properly and in being genuinely accepted as a unique human being that you are.
I will unpick with you whatever subject you decide is important to your emotional wellbeing. Together we will break it down into component parts, analyse their significance, work out what role you want that particular subject to play in your future and how to get there.
For example, you might be feeling trapped. You may wish to break free and have a new beginning, try new things, have a future markedley different in a positive way from your present. How do you get there? My first question is likely to be, what does "there" look like? In vivid detail. Now that you have a compelling image of your desired outcome, let's reverse-engineer the process of achieving it, bearing in mind your existing resources.
Here are the key points about therapy with me:
- It all starts with you. You choose what to explore. I will work with you on getting to the core of the issues. However, you are in charge of interpreting life events and how to act on that meaning
- I am here to emotionally support you. I will do my best to provide a safe and comfortable psychological space. There is no judgement
- Together we will visualise your desired reality and work towards an achievable version. The ultimate aim is for you to start living a fulfilling life comfortably as swiftly as possible
- It is convenient. I am here for you both online and in person
Appointments are available online or on the phone on weekday evenings and in person in Beaconsfield HP9 on Sunday afternoons.
My first session
I will try to respond to your initial query as quickly as I can. A usual sequence after that is:- brief phone conversation to discuss what your are looking for
- email follow-up from me with a summary of offered therapy service
- first session to delve into the detail of your best hopes from therapy
- further weekly sessions on an open-ended basis
The first session is about us getting to know each other and clarifying your goals. You are always in control of what is discussed in the sessions and how many sessions you have.
