About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Helen, a qualified Child and Adolescent Therapeutic Counsellor, and registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming and hard to cope with for children and young people. They could be having issues at school, within their friendships or at home. Perhaps they have experienced a difficult event or have been impacted by the loss of a loved one.

It can be challenging for children and young people to put these big feelings into words, and that’s where creative therapy can really help.

I aim to create a safe space where children, young people and parents can reflect on what is troubling them. My work is informed by an understanding of how our early relationships and life experiences can shape us, as well as the impact of trauma, attachment and the nervous system.

I work with a wide range of issues, specialising in anxiety, grief and loss and supporting young carers.

Practice description

I use an integrative approach, which means that I adapt the therapeutic modality to suit the needs of the individual I am working with. Some children and young people want to talk about what they’re going through; others prefer to express their feelings through play, arts or using the sand tray. I may also support the young person to engage in mindfulness based wellness practices.

I also work relationally, so the relationship we build together is an important part of the therapy.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute introductory meeting either online or by phone.

This provides an opportunity for us to connect together and discuss what brings you/your child to therapy. It also gives you the chance to ask any questions and get a sense of whether you think we are a good fit to work together.
