About me and my therapy practice
Hi there, my name is Gemma and I am an Integrative Child and Young Person Therapist, working with clients up to the age of 25. I have experience supporting children, adolescents, and young adults across a range of settings, including schools, charitable organisations, and private practice.
I draw on a wide range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Play Therapy, Creative Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Animal-Assisted Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy. This integrative approach allows me to tailor therapy to each child’s unique needs and circumstances, creating a collaborative and individualised therapeutic experience.
I have experience supporting presentations such as anxiety, depression, neurodiversity-related challenges, OCD, self-harm, suicidal ideation, developmental trauma, and attachment difficulties.
I hold a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Counselling Children and Young People. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS Accred).
My lovely dog, Beau, and I are also trained and registered to offer Animal-Assisted Therapy.
Practice description
What to Expect Before Your First Visit
Coming to therapy can feel new or uncertain, and that’s completely okay. This page is here to help you and your child know what to expect before you arrive. My aim is to make the process as gentle, predictable, and comfortable as possible.
A Safe and Welcoming Space
My therapy room is a quiet, calm and inviting space designed to feel safe and welcoming. It incorporates nature and soothing creative materials and toys, available for children who prefer to express themselves through play or art. Young people are free to choose where they sit and how they use the space.
When You Arrive
When you arrive, you’ll come through the gate and into the therapy room. If the gate is closed, please ring the bell so I know you’re here. I will come to greet you and help your child settle in at their own pace.
My first session
The first session is gentle and relaxed. There is no pressure to talk about anything before your child feels ready. We spend time getting to know each other, exploring the room, and helping your child feel comfortable. Parents are welcome to stay for part or all of the first session if that feels right for your child.
