About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Claire, a BACP-registered Integrative Counsellor working in private practice in Darlington. I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and feel heard. I understand that starting counselling can feel like a significant step, and I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings in a way that feels right for you.

I  have experience supporting a range of clients within private practice, higher education counselling services and bereavement organisations. I undertake regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure my practice remains safe, ethical and up to date. I am also fully insured.

Alongside my counselling work, I have experience supporting lifestyle and behavioural changes that promote overall health and wellbeing, should this be something you would like to explore alongside therapy.

Practice description

My approach is primarily person-centred, meaning I work alongside you with a focus on what matters most to you. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to support you in developing greater self-awareness, insight and autonomy. Through this process, you may gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and the challenges you are facing. Together, we can explore new perspectives and identify meaningful ways to move forward that work for you.

As an integrative counsellor, I can also draw on other therapeutic approaches where appropriate, adapting sessions to meet your individual needs. We will work collaboratively in a way that feels comfortable and right for you. My work is grounded in empathy, authenticity, respect and a genuine commitment to understanding your unique experiences.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation to discuss what has brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have, and explore whether we may be a good fit to work together. You can then take some time to decide whether you would like to work with me.

During our first session, we will talk about your concerns, expectations and any goals you would like to work towards. We will also review our counselling agreement so that you understand how counselling works and what you can expect from our work together.

My aim is to provide a safe and supportive space where you feel comfortable exploring the issues that matter to you.

Ongoing weekly sessions are available and tailored to your individual needs, helping you work towards meaningful and lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.
