About me and my therapy practice
You may have reached a point where something in your life doesn’t feel right anymore. You might be struggling with anxiety, relationships, family, confidence, your sense of identity or direction in life. Or you may not be able to put your finger on exactly what is wrong, you just know that something needs to change. My approach to therapy is warm, relational and down to earth. You don’t need to come with everything figured out or know exactly what you want to talk about. We can start with where you are now and make sense of things together.
I’m an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, which means I don’t believe one way of working fits everybody. I draw from person-centred, psychodynamic, relational and systemic approaches depending on you, what you bring to therapy and what feels most helpful.
Sometimes our work might focus on what is happening in your life right now. At other times, we may become curious about earlier experiences, relationships or family patterns and how these may still be shaping the way you see yourself, relate to other people or respond to situations today.
I’m particularly interested in working with young adults navigating adulthood, identity, relationships, family, career and life direction, as well as men who may not always have had many spaces where they can speak openly about how they are feeling.
As a Black male therapist, I also understand that culture, race, masculinity, family and identity can sometimes form an important part of how we experience ourselves and the world around us. There is space for these conversations in therapy when they are important to you.
Ultimately, therapy with me is about having somewhere you can talk honestly, understand yourself better and begin working towards whatever change means for you.
Practice description
I run You & Co Therapy, an online counselling and psychotherapy practice working with adults and young adults across the UK.
My practice grew from many years of working alongside people across therapeutic, community, youth, early-help and family settings. One thing I have learned throughout that experience is that people often need somewhere they can speak freely without feeling judged, labelled or expected to have all the answers.
I work with people experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, difficult relationships, family difficulties, low self-esteem, anger, bereavement, difficult past experiences, identity questions and major changes in life. I also work with people who simply feel stuck and want to understand themselves and their lives differently.
Young adulthood is a particular area of interest within my practice. Your late teens, twenties and early thirties can bring enormous change relationships, independence, work, becoming a parent, family expectations, identity and trying to work out what kind of life you actually want for yourself.
I also have a particular interest in men’s emotional wellbeing. Therapy can offer a different kind of space for men who may be used to carrying things privately, dealing with problems themselves or finding it difficult to put certain feelings into words.
My practice is inclusive and I welcome people of all genders, cultures and backgrounds.
All sessions take place online, giving you the space to talk from somewhere you feel comfortable and at ease.
Sessions are 50 minutes and can be weekly or fortnightly. You don’t need to know how long you want therapy for before you begin. You may want support through a particular period of your life, or you may want more time to understand yourself, your relationships and some of the experiences that have shaped you.
We can take things at a pace that feels right for you and see where the work takes us.
My first session
Before beginning therapy, I offer a free 20-minute online introductory consultation.
This gives us an opportunity to meet and have an initial conversation about what has brought you to therapy, what you might be looking for and whether working together feels right for you.
There is no expectation that you need to make a decision there and then. Finding a therapist you feel comfortable talking to matters, so the consultation is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of me and ask any questions you may have.
If we decide to work together, I’ll send you the information you need before our first therapy session.
Our first full session is 50 minutes and costs £65. There isn’t a particular way you need to prepare for it. We can begin with whatever feels most important to you at the time.
Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to talk about. Others know that something isn’t right but aren’t quite sure where to begin. Both are completely okay.
We can start with where you are now and take it from there together.
