About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to Calming Minds Counselling.
I’m Kate, an MBACP counsellor and Level 5 attachment and trauma specialist, offering counselling to adults across the UK.
I offer a warm, safe, and non-judgemental space where you can begin to explore what’s going on for you at your own pace. My approach is person-centred, attachment-based, and trauma-informed, meaning I work collaboratively with you to understand not just what you’re feeling, but why those patterns may have developed.
Many of the people I work with feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in repeating patterns, particularly in relationships. You may find yourself overthinking, feeling “too much” or “not enough,” or struggling with shame, self-criticism, or emotional exhaustion. Together, we gently explore these experiences, helping you make sense of your emotional world with compassion rather than judgement.
Attachment-based therapy looks at how early relationships can shape the way we connect with ourselves and others. By understanding these patterns, we can begin to develop more secure, balanced ways of relating, both internally and in your relationships.
Our work together is led by you. I won’t tell you what to do, but I will support you in building insight, emotional awareness, and self-trust. Over time, this can help you feel more grounded, more in control, and better able to respond to life’s challenges.
I work with a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, OCD, neurodiversity, shame, loss, and relationship issues.
Couples counselling will be available from 1st July 2026.
You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. If you feel ready to take that first step, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
Practice description
I provide a warm, safe, and supportive space where you can explore emotional, relational, and mental health challenges at your own pace.
My approach is person-centred, attachment-informed, and trauma-aware. Together, we can explore experiences such as anxiety, depression, shame, grief and loss, trauma, OCD, addiction, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties. I also have experience supporting women and girls on the autism spectrum.
In our work together, we focus on understanding patterns, developing practical coping strategies, building self-compassion, and helping you feel more grounded and emotionally resilient. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to your individual needs, with a focus on helping you feel heard, understood, and supported.
I offer both online and face-to-face sessions. Online counselling provides flexibility, accessibility, and the comfort of being in your own space, while in-person sessions offer a calm and welcoming environment. I aim to be as flexible as possible to suit your schedule.
Confidentiality is maintained at all times, and I work in line with professional and ethical standards. Ongoing supervision and professional development are an important part of my practice, ensuring I offer safe and effective support.
From July 2026, I will also be offering couples counselling, supporting partners to improve communication, deepen understanding, and strengthen their connection.
If you feel ready to take the first step, you’re very welcome to get in touch to explore how counselling could support you.
My first session
I offer a free initial consultation, usually by phone, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, share a little about what’s bringing you to therapy, and see whether I feel like the right fit for you. There is no charge for this, unlike some practices that may offer this at a reduced or full fee.
Your first full session is a gentle introduction to working together. It’s a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can begin to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
During this session, we will:
- Talk about what has brought you to counselling
- Explore your current challenges and any patterns you may be noticing
- Discuss your hopes and goals for therapy
- Begin to consider how we might work together
As part of the initial process, I may invite you to complete a brief assessment, such as a GAD-7 or PHQ-9 questionnaire. This helps provide a general guideline for how you’re feeling and supports me in working safely and appropriately with you.
There is no pressure to share more than you feel ready to. Building trust and a sense of safety is an important part of the process, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Sessions are available online via a secure platform, as well as face-to-face where possible, offering flexibility to suit your needs.
If you feel ready to take the first step, you’re very welcome to get in touch to arrange your free initial consultation.
