About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP Accredited psychodynamic counsellor, in Edinburgh. I offer short and long term counselling for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship or job difficulties, illness, or trauma. I have prior experience in the NHS and Community Education.
I welcome people of all cultures, races, religions, genders, sexualities, disabilities and neurodiversities and I extend the offer of a safe, compassionate, inclusive and confidential space. I am also open to challenge, where I fall short.
The psychodynamic approach considers the way in which our earliest life experiences tend to repeat themselves in patterns throughout our lives, in the relationships and jobs we chose and how we deal with life's difficulties.
Change can come about through a trusting and empathic relationship, when we learn to recognise and change these patterns, then become more true to ourselves.
Practice description
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Human Relations and Counselling, awarded by Robert Gordon University and accredited by COSCA. My PhD is in Medical Physics and I also have a PGDip in Community Education.
As a counsellor, I have worked in two Third Sector services, one for people experiencing long-term illness, their families and carers and one for people with mental health struggles, such as depression, anxiety, stress, loss, grief and past trauma. I am now in private practice.
I have almost 40yrs' prior experience, firstly in the NHS, as a scientist in cancer services, then in Community Education, where I worked with people experiencing homelessness and in drug and alcohol services.
I am an Accredited member of BACP. I am insured through PPS and I am a PVG Scheme Member for regulated work with children and protected adults, in both support work and counselling. I work with ages 16+ years.
My first session
I offer a reduced fee (£25), no-obligation, initial consultation, in person, to allow us time to determine whether I can help, whether you feel safe and comfortable and whether we would work well together. You would be free to disclose only as much as you want.
We would also discuss the time slots I have available and how this would work for you.
My fee is £55 for 50mins, for new clients. The fee is negotiable for those on a lower wage, or for those clients I have previously worked with in the Third Sector.
