About me and my therapy practice
My name is Mia Hourigan, and I am the founder of MH Counselling, a space where you don’t have to carry everything on your own. Reaching out for support can feel hard, especially when life already feels heavy, but it can also be the first step toward understanding yourself more deeply and creating positive, lasting change.
Together, we will work to understand what’s been happening for you, helping you make sense of your experiences so you can reconnect with your strengths and feel more grounded, capable, and in control, whatever challenges you’ve been facing.
Maybe you’re going through changes in your life right now and they can show up in many different ways. You might be experiencing grief, questioning your sense of self or identity, feeling stuck or uncertain at a crossroads, navigating relationship challenges, or coming to terms with a recent diagnosis. Whatever you’re facing, you don’t have to try to understand or carry it all on your own.
Two heads are better than one. Reach out, share the heaviness you’ve been holding, and let’s work through it together.
I take a flexible, tailored approach to counselling, drawing on a range of therapeutic modalities to suit your unique needs, goals, and values. Our work is collaborative, I work alongside you in a supportive, non-judgemental space where your voice matters. Together, we’ll explore challenges, build insight, and develop practical tools that empower you to move forward with confidence, choice, and autonomy.

About Our Work Together
Our work together is a collaborative and supportive process between counsellor and client. I use a range of counselling approaches, always with you at the heart of the work.
You are the expert in your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, helping to gently uncover your own understanding, strengths, and insights in a way that feels safe and respectful.
Each session offers space for reflection, growth, and clarity, with the hope that you leave with something meaningful to carry with you and apply in your everyday life.
My first session
Your First Session
The first session is a gentle space for us to meet and begin getting to know one another. We’ll start with some informal conversation to help you feel at ease and comfortable.
We’ll take time to talk through what counselling can offer and what you can expect, so everything feels clear and supportive. There is plenty of space for any questions you may have, and for you to share what feels important to you at this stage.
Together, we’ll gently explore your needs and any hopes or goals you may have, always at a pace that feels right for you. Some people find it helpful to have a clear plan, while others prefer to take things one session at a time — both are completely okay.
Our work together will be relaxed and guided by you. I will listen carefully to what you need and support you in a way that feels respectful, flexible, and aligned with you.
