About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Katie Jeffery, and I provide counselling for children, teenagers and adults.

I believe there is always hope, and that counselling can offer a safe, supportive space where you can feel truly seen, heard and understood. From my own personal experience of overcoming difficult challenges, I understand the courage and energy it can take to reach out for support. I know how important it is to feel accepted for who you are, to be met with empathy and compassion, and to have someone genuinely listen when you may feel that others haven’t.

I’m passionate about providing ethical, diverse and inclusive therapy that recognises and respects each person’s individual experiences and needs. We will work collaboratively, at your pace, to help you feel empowered to make positive changes and develop the confidence and tools to navigate life’s challenges.

I have experience supporting people with a broad range of difficulties and life experiences. I have a particular interest in working with neurodiversity, children and teenagers, as well as issues relating to identity, culture and discrimination.

Above all, I aim to create a warm, non-judgemental and authentic therapeutic relationship where you can feel safe to be yourself and explore whatever is bringing you to counselling.

Practice description

I often incorporate creative interventions into my sessions to provide clients with alternative and accessible ways to express and explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences.

This may include drawing, painting and playdough as tools for expressing emotions and communicating experiences that can sometimes be difficult to put into words. I may also use sand play, the empty chair technique and therapeutic letter writing to help clients explore relationships, process emotions and express what they may need to say.

Alongside these creative approaches, I use guided imagery, meditation and body-awareness techniques to support clients in developing greater awareness of their emotions and physical responses. These can be particularly helpful in learning how to regulate emotions, manage anxiety and develop grounding techniques that can be used both within and beyond the therapy room.

I tailor these approaches to each individual, ensuring that the therapy feels comfortable, meaningful and suited to their needs.

My first session

Before meeting for your first session, I offer a complimentary 15–20 minute video call. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, for you to ask any questions, and to consider whether the support I offer is appropriate for your needs. It also gives you the opportunity to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me.

Following the initial call, we can arrange your assessment session. This assessment will focus on getting to know you, gathering relevant information, discussing your goals for therapy and ensuring that my experience and expertise are a good match for your needs.

Prior to your first session, you will be provided with a copy of my GDPR form, which explains how your personal information is stored and kept secure in accordance with current GDPR legislation. You will also receive a counselling agreement to review and sign, along with an invoice.

Where possible, we will aim to meet at the same time, on the same day each week, either in person or online. Having a regular appointment can help provide consistency and a sense of safety throughout the therapeutic process.

I understand that therapy is an investment and cost can be an issue for some trying to access it. The cost covers the price of renting the room to carry out therapy and the upkeep/ variety of art materials available for you to use in your sessions.

Availability

I have availability to accept new clients in person and online from the Solihull, Kenilworth and Coventry areas. I have two locations based in the centre of Kenilworth in which I practice from. These can be accessed via car and public transport.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified BACP counsellor in private practice offering my therapeutic services to children, teens and adults.

I deliver short- and long-term therapy using integrative approaches so that each person's sessions are flexible and tailor made to their individual needs. I work very empathetically and incorporate a variety of techniques to help meet you where you are at.

I have a wealth of experience in a broad range of issues, however, in my practice as a therapist I have frequently worked with anxiety and stress in education, bereavement, grief and loss related to cancer and other illnesses, health and neurodiversity diagnosis, LGBTQ+ and identity exploration, difficult relationships, anger management, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

Practice description

I often use creative interventions in sessions to help aid clients in conveying themselves. This may look like using drawing, painting and play dough as a way to express thoughts and feelings; sand play, empty chair and letter writing for saying what needs to be said; using guided imagery, meditation and body awareness to learn how to regulate and ground yourself in times of anxiety.

I also invite you to bring whatever creative outlets you connect with to the sessions. This may be (but not limited to) a poem/ song / prayer you have produced, lyrics to songs you relate to, a camera to take photos, a knitting/ crochet item you are creating, or interpretive dance etc.

NEURODIVERSITY

As someone who is neurodivergent and with experience in supporting others who are neurodiverse, I know how hard the diagnosis process is and seeking support through various life transitions. My practice is integrative so that each client's sessions are flexible and tailor made to their individual needs.

IDENTITY, CULTURE and DISCRIMINATION

Throughout my life I have supported and worked alongside people from all over the world and from all walks of life. I am passionate about mental health support being accessible and inclusive for the UK's growing multicultural society. I collaborate with clients to create a safe and respectful space to explore the discrimination or racism they have faced as well as, honouring and empowering them in all the parts that make up their identity.

SPIRITUALITY AND RELIGION

As a Christian, I appreciate and understand that clients may identify as having a faith or as spiritual. I am committed to providing room for exploring whatever the clients beliefs and values are, as well as, giving the opportunity to incorporate them as much or as little as the client would like in therapy.

My first session

Before meeting for our first session I offer a 15-20 minute video call (for which there is no charge) to give you the opportunity to see whether the counselling I offer is appropriate to your needs and for you to decide if you would like to work with me.

Following the initial 15 minute video call we can arrange an assessment session which will be to gather information about you, establish your goals for therapy and ensure my expertise matches your needs. Prior to the assessment session you will be sent a copy of my Privacy Policy which outlines how I keep your data secure in line with current GDPR legislation, a contract agreement and an invoice.

Afterwards we will make an agreement to meet in person or online at the same time, on the same day every week.
