About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified BACP counsellor in private practice offering my therapeutic services to children, teens and adults.
I deliver short- and long-term therapy using integrative approaches so that each person's sessions are flexible and tailor made to their individual needs. I work very empathetically and incorporate a variety of techniques to help meet you where you are at.
I have a wealth of experience in a broad range of issues, however, in my practice as a therapist I have frequently worked with anxiety and stress in education, bereavement, grief and loss related to cancer and other illnesses, health and neurodiversity diagnosis, LGBTQ+ and identity exploration, difficult relationships, anger management, self-harm and suicidal ideation.
Practice description
I often use creative interventions in sessions to help aid clients in conveying themselves. This may look like using drawing, painting and play dough as a way to express thoughts and feelings; sand play, empty chair and letter writing for saying what needs to be said; using guided imagery, meditation and body awareness to learn how to regulate and ground yourself in times of anxiety.
I also invite you to bring whatever creative outlets you connect with to the sessions. This may be (but not limited to) a poem/ song / prayer you have produced, lyrics to songs you relate to, a camera to take photos, a knitting/ crochet item you are creating, or interpretive dance etc.
NEURODIVERSITY
As someone who is neurodivergent and with experience in supporting others who are neurodiverse, I know how hard the diagnosis process is and seeking support through various life transitions. My practice is integrative so that each client's sessions are flexible and tailor made to their individual needs.
IDENTITY, CULTURE and DISCRIMINATION
Throughout my life I have supported and worked alongside people from all over the world and from all walks of life. I am passionate about mental health support being accessible and inclusive for the UK's growing multicultural society. I collaborate with clients to create a safe and respectful space to explore the discrimination or racism they have faced as well as, honouring and empowering them in all the parts that make up their identity.
SPIRITUALITY AND RELIGION
As a Christian, I appreciate and understand that clients may identify as having a faith or as spiritual. I am committed to providing room for exploring whatever the clients beliefs and values are, as well as, giving the opportunity to incorporate them as much or as little as the client would like in therapy.
My first session
Before meeting for our first session I offer a 15-20 minute video call (for which there is no charge) to give you the opportunity to see whether the counselling I offer is appropriate to your needs and for you to decide if you would like to work with me.
Following the initial 15 minute video call we can arrange an assessment session which will be to gather information about you, establish your goals for therapy and ensure my expertise matches your needs. Prior to the assessment session you will be sent a copy of my Privacy Policy which outlines how I keep your data secure in line with current GDPR legislation, a contract agreement and an invoice.
Afterwards we will make an agreement to meet in person or online at the same time, on the same day every week.
