About me and my therapy practice
Most of the people I work with are capable, driven and good at holding things together. On the outside, life can look absolutely fine.
On the inside, it can feel very different.
Your mind won't switch off. You overthink things you know you probably don't need to overthink. Anxiety creeps into decisions, relationships, work and everyday life. You might feel overwhelmed, exhausted or constantly under pressure, even when there isn't an obvious reason why.
Sometimes there's a name for it: anxiety, panic, burnout, low mood or low self-esteem.
Sometimes it's harder to explain. You just know something doesn't feel right. Perhaps you've lost confidence in yourself, become disconnected from who you used to be, or noticed the same patterns showing up again and again despite your best efforts to change them.
I'm Geri, an integrative counsellor and therapeutic coach working with adults one-to-one, face to face in Cheadle, Staffordshire and online across the UK.
I work particularly with anxiety, panic, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, low self-esteem and depression, alongside the patterns that can sit underneath them, such as perfectionism, people pleasing, self-doubt and feeling as though you're never quite enough.
A big part of my work is helping people understand themselves more deeply.
Not simply learning how to manage a symptom, but becoming curious about what has shaped the way you think, feel and respond to life. When you begin to recognise those patterns, you have more choice about whether they continue to run your life.
My passion is helping people become more self-led: knowing yourself, learning to trust yourself and feeling able to make choices that genuinely reflect who you are and the life you want to create.
If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love to hear from you.
Practice description
My approach is warm, down to earth and non-judgemental. Therapy with me is collaborative, and I aim to create a calm, reflective space where you can speak openly, explore what is happening for you and feel genuinely heard.
There isn't one prescribed way that we have to work. Everything is shaped around you, your experiences, your pace and what you need from therapy.
As an integrative counsellor, my work is grounded in a person-centred and humanistic approach while also drawing on CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused approaches, Positive Psychology and parts-informed ways of understanding ourselves.
This allows us to explore both what is happening now and, where useful, what may have shaped it.
We might look at the beliefs you've developed about yourself, patterns within relationships, how you respond to anxiety or difficult emotions, the expectations you place on yourself, or the experiences that have influenced the person you've learned to be.
Alongside talking therapy, I can also introduce practical tools, psychological ideas, resources and exercises where they are helpful. For some people this provides something tangible to work with between sessions. For others, having the space to talk, reflect and understand themselves is exactly what they need.
Some people come to therapy for relatively short-term, focused work. Others want to explore longer-standing patterns or experiences more deeply. There is no expectation that you should know which you need before we begin. We can work that out together and review our work as we go.
Ultimately, my aim isn't to tell you who you should become. It's to help you understand yourself well enough that you can trust yourself, make choices with greater confidence and create a life that feels more like your own.
My first session
Before we begin, I offer a free introductory call. It's an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
There's no obligation or pressure to go ahead.
Your first counselling session is where our therapeutic work begins. We'll spend some time understanding what has been happening for you, what you would like support with and anything important from your history or current circumstances that might help us build a fuller picture.
We'll also talk about what you might want from therapy and how we could work together.
You don't need to arrive with perfectly formed goals or know exactly where to start. In fact, anxiety and overwhelm can make it incredibly difficult to make sense of what is going on.
We can start wherever you are.
My aim is to provide a calm, supportive space where you can begin talking, reflecting and understanding what you need. We go at your pace.
I offer a free initial consultation, so if you're considering therapy, you're very welcome to get in touch.
